Jeff Smith’s extraordinary racemare has passed away at the good age of 26.
Trained throughout her career by Ian Balding, Lochsong took off in in her fourth year when completing the Stewards Cup/Portland/Ayr Gold Cup treble. For the following two seasons, she became a standing dish in Europe’s top sprint races, collecting three Group Ones in the process including the L’abbaye as a six year old. She also went on to be a reasonably broodmare counting Lochridge and Loch Verdi among her speediest offspring.
An absolute teak tough rarity in the game and one of the more pleasant memories in my formative years of following the sport.
RIP old girl

May 28, 2014 at 11:12 #480369One of my all time favourites the most exciting sprinter of all time in my opinion, charismatic and you knew she would never let you down, sadly Colic was the one thing she couldn’t beat.
RIP Lochsong and thanks for some wonderful memories.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 28, 2014 at 18:14 #480405A very genuine sprinter and for the first time I started to realize the HUGE difference between 5f and 6f sprints.
Nevertheless she was great fun to watch. It`s nice that she reached the age of 26 years, but then again it worries me just how fast time has gone by.
Rest In Peace LOCHSONG!!!May 28, 2014 at 18:45 #480414Yes; where does the time go
