Come on TV presenters….
Something needs to be said about Liverpool bookmakers shortening everything.
Value Is EverythingApril 11, 2015 at 15:05 #881155Except AP’s :(
April 11, 2015 at 17:01 #881304I noticed that too Ginge, the deafening silence from the ‘expert’ C4 racing affiencados when nothing was said about all prices tumbling.
Guess they were more interested in the fashion show under Gwok Kok ?April 11, 2015 at 17:22 #881393Betfair SP on Shutthefrontdoor was pretty amazing at 28. Maybe everyone was trying to lay at SP in anticipation of a shortening at the end. Anyway it has put me off laying at SP.
April 11, 2015 at 23:33 #881894It is an absolute disgrace – something I have been banging on about for years.
April 12, 2015 at 07:00 #882326Except AP’s

6/1 not short enough for you steeplechasing?
As kasparov points out how could Shutthefrontdoor be returned 28 on Betfair? I thought the Betfair SP was based on what was available at the off? Surely it wasn’t 28 prior to the off?
April 12, 2015 at 09:53 #882518The only 3 horses I can see that lengthened in odds from opening show to starting price were Royale Knight 20s to 25s, Chance Du Roy 33s to 40s, Godsmejudge 16s to 18s. 21 horses shortened in price from Opening show to SP. Tranquil Sea was backed in from 100s to 33s, Soll 12s in 9s, Oscar Time 33s into 20s (Price nearly shorter than his age
), Unioniste 25s to 16s, Bob Ford 100s into 50s, Mon Parrain, Lord Windermere, The Rainbow Hunter and Across The Bay all 50s into 33s. So as to shortening everything. Not quite. As for ripping off the punter. Most definitely
April 16, 2015 at 12:51 #890862At last the BHA is looking in to this.
Lydia Hislop also raised the issue on RUK.
Value Is EverythingApril 16, 2015 at 21:42 #891929“This is something we are acutely aware of at the BHA. The starting price system and associated betting shows from racecourses are key to fair and open betting, but also to betting operator profits.”
Which is code for if we do anything to rock the boat that decreases corporate bookmaker profits however fraudently obtained) then they will threaten to cut our gravy train (The Levy). Which means they will as usual posture and wriggle, but do absolutely nothing. Fraud is a police matter so if BHA are advised fraud has taken place they have no option but to report it to the police.
“The Gambling Commission said it would be guided by the SPRC on any issues surrounding starting prices as the SPRC held “the relevant expertise”.
But a spokesman added: “If the SPRC provided evidence that the integrity of the starting price was being compromised, we might consider, if and where appropriate, targeted use of our regulatory powers under our duty to ensure that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way.”What an appalling statement from a body funded to ensure the UK Gambling Act is applied correctly and fairly.
The SP is a key item that operates on every racing day on how many punters are paid and whether they are paid.
fairly. Yet GC admit no expertise and no knowledge if it is fair or not. Do they think SPRC is going to take its head out of the sand and confess to aiding and abetting fraud? The SP has been falsified for decades, day after day after day, by sending small packets of money to a weak on-course market and reducing liabilities by £ thousands. That the racing media have kept stum for so long once again is shameful.
April 16, 2015 at 22:39 #891965Everything Robert99 says is true BUT…who bets at SP?
Recreational punters.
They don’t care about not getting value so why should we care on their behalf?
And who bets on the Grand National at SP? (Despite countless warnings to take a price)
Once a year recreational punters – the kind of people who buy lottery tickets – and they care about value even less.
Let the big bookies fleece the mugs – no skin off our noses. =D

Deary me, condoning licensed thievery

It regularly happens at all weather evening meetings as well.
April 17, 2015 at 07:25 #892739McCririck was saying all this on At The Races on Sunday Morning
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.April 17, 2015 at 11:07 #893060I suspect the Gambling Commission will step in sooner or later and the end result will be an SP derived from an amalgamation of online and betting shop stakes,
April 17, 2015 at 11:57 #893101The SP system has been wrong ever since exchanges appeared on the scene!
Even before that the big three as was used to manipulate the SP’s to save themselves money and not many people shouted and screamed about it !
My view is that so many bookies off course offer Best Odds nowadays that if you bet at SP its your choice albeit a bd one but it is a matter of choice.April 17, 2015 at 23:15 #893623There is a difference between condoning and not caring, Mr Yeats. =D

Surely you don’t bet at SP? =D

That should be “don’t know” rather “don’t care”.
Blatant profiteering by bookmakers at the expense of once a year punters is what you are condoning Mr Davies.
