“Sorry, don’t agree with that.”
Never apologise for disagreeing with me – this forum (and life) would be mindnumbingly dull if everyone agreed on everything.
I get your point and you’re not wrong.
But I find that racecourses – and sporting events in general – are seldom the optimum place in any locale to obtain food.
There is invariably something infinitely better on offer within a few miles of the venue.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 5, 2021 at 13:23 #1566335I recommend the Griddle & Fry van at Plumpton – excellent burgers (last tried February 2019). Some mobile outlets at racecourses are better bets than the racecourse-run outlets in the stands.
November 5, 2021 at 16:15 #1566358There is a van which sells Chinese food at Plumpton which was always my choice there. I think it goes to Fontwell too.
November 5, 2021 at 16:27 #1566360Aside from food, getting a decent pint is a problem on most racecourses. They usually charge the thick end of £5 for undistinguished lagers or smooth flow bitters, so I seldom bother.
At Ludlow two weeks ago, the local and very originally named Ludlow Brewery had three of their cask beers on sale. It is unusual to find one such beer on a racecourse.
A local brewery used to have a stall at Sandown but I have not been there for about five years. It used to go to Kempton and Newbury as well but that seemed to stop.
And I can recall Fakenham, Hereford and Wincanton offering local brews. But most racecourse bars are best avoided.
November 5, 2021 at 16:36 #1566364Some of the best racecourse food is unsurprisingly across the channel – tiny track La Roche Posay had a superb
marquee which was catered for by local restaurants as a massive buffet. Really excellent. I’d like to see the
UK do something similar at smaller tracks – they could champion good local food, just needs some effort.November 5, 2021 at 16:57 #1566366There is invariably something infinitely better on offer within a few miles of the venue.
Exeter (I’m a whippersnapper so no ‘Devon &’ prefix) could be a bit of a challenge if you didn’t know the area Ian. Although there is now a 24 hour McDonalds about three minutes walk from the front gate. Perhaps they spotted a gap in the market…
November 5, 2021 at 16:59 #1566368“I’m starving. Let’s find the nearest racecourse racing today and eat whatever they have in their restaurant.” Said no one ever.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 5, 2021 at 17:10 #1566374That is not what anyone is saying. I do not see why it is unreasonable to expect racecourses to look after their customers and offer them some decent food. As I said, Irish racecourses manage it and obiwan has given a good example from France.
Too many British racecourses have a like it or lump it attitude. And assume everyone is happy with pies or burgers.
November 5, 2021 at 17:31 #1566384Must say the idea of French food at a racecourse does appeal.
I’d have to go to France, though, which, while a lovely country with great food and racing, has one deal-breaking drawback – the FRENCH.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 6, 2021 at 07:21 #1566474Bit of a generalisation there, Ian, old man? I’m fairly sure us Brits (or you English) are similarly thought of by the FROGS.
November 6, 2021 at 07:32 #1566476I can just imagine you, Colin, sitting there watching Blackadder back in the day and repeatedly saying: “that’s a bit of a generalisation.”
It’s a JOKE, ffs.
Whoosh!

They are allowed to say it about us but god forbid we make a joke at their expense
And it’s not as if the French haven’t been just a bit obsessed with the british this last year or so
November 6, 2021 at 09:57 #1566501Sorry. I meant English. The Scots think they are their best friends.
Bless.
November 6, 2021 at 10:58 #1566526Your comment Ian reminds me of the wineries in Australia and NZ – where people do go for lunch, but not terribly
interested in plodding round the vines. The lunches are well booked and very popular, great local platters
or top chefs. There is more than enough room at racecourses to promote a good lunch menu with the added
bonus of watching some racing. Just needs some thought and gumption.November 6, 2021 at 12:06 #1566533Christ, more political bollocks.
November 8, 2021 at 13:56 #1566867I do like this Richard bloke. Some pertinent posts😁
Hard to argue with Clive ,
But I will as I think most of the grub at Racetracks is rubbish
I exempt york and sandown
November 8, 2021 at 14:09 #1566870I didn’t like Richard at first, but then I did.
Far better that way around.
