Not even a relevant Epsom trial then. Why even bother calling it a ‘Derby trial’?
May 12, 2012 at 13:47 #403987They usually run the race on the turf but with all the recent rain it left the round course waterlogged, so they transferred both the Derby and Oaks trials to the all-too-exciting all weather track. Should call it the bucket and spade trial for all its relevance to Epsom.
May 12, 2012 at 13:53 #403988I thought that is what it might be, but doesnt make it any more satisfactory. I get the feeling that Lingfield would have tried a little harder to have the turf track prepared if they didn’t have the A/W track to fall back on.
May 12, 2012 at 14:28 #403993The derby is run on good to firm ground these days, which is what polytrack is, occasionally it is run on good ground. The AW track at Lingfield has more similarities to Epsom than most other tracks.
Just how relevant would a trial at Nottingham or Newcastle or wherever in the mud be?
