Don’t know why you should think Collateral Damage needs soft ground? His trainer has avoided firm ground in the past, but the horse has won twice on genuine g/f at Redcar, and (even without the forecast rain) I doubt the new turf at Doncaster will inconvenience him one iota.
Imo, his last race of the season was much better form than his Southwell 3rd behind Penitent and, like you, I have it between him and Mia’s Boy.I will be walking the course in the morning reet! You know how accurate my Going reports are!
March 24, 2010 at 17:41 #285354Generally not a trends fan but have to confess I was "advised" by someone connected to the horse to back Mull of Killough in the middle of Feb when he was still 33’s for the race.
Concerned that Haggas has been plotting up the fav and asked Murtagh to ride the horse in Jan but fingers crossed.
March 24, 2010 at 18:01 #285365I seem to remember that last year I was going to back all that Willy Haggas ran at the start of the season. I didn’t. I think I regretted it.
March 24, 2010 at 18:51 #285379I think it’s down to the going. What chance of ‘GOOD’ as the one I like needs that. Anyone live in Doncaster?

Heavy rain forecast, and I read that the CoC has watered!
March 24, 2010 at 21:09 #285415Won’t inconvenience Penitent – was a good second on soft ground on his debut.

Surely the handicapper has now caught up with Collateral Damage? He been racing against in and out horses in most of his races, getting weight or simply racing againsy bad horses. He’s been very well placed up top now and I just can’t believe he won’t find one one or two of these primed to the minute horses too good for him.
Can’t see him beating Viznau getting only 2lbs.
Seems like Hughsie is off to the world cup with all the other top jockeys. I wonder how significent it is that Johhny Murtagh crosses the sea to ride Penitent. I would have thought his agent could have found a decent mount or two for him at Meydan.
Certainly looks like he’s well fancied at a lousy 5/1 for this.
Got the stangest ew tip ever for this trained by Ollie Pears. Ishatoo :- Needs fast ground, ran over 7f years ago but never runs over more than 6f these days and his form stinks…..sounds like a Lincoln horse to me
He is ridden by 100/1 specialist Frannie Norton but apart from that you’d need some leap of faith to back him. 2 quid on BF is all Iwill be risking……gawd I hate this race
March 25, 2010 at 08:25 #285462Hi All
As I see it the going is crucial. Love to see good.

Would be greatfull of any updates. That COC wants stringing up!
March 25, 2010 at 08:27 #285463PS Not placed any bets yet

I think there is more to like about the booking of Johnny than there is in the horse itself! Had he been a "Pivotal" Chestnut,i could see the reason for him being so short. His sire Kyllachy was a smart sprinter but this fellow will get 11/4m no problem.Cheveley Park do like there progressive 4yo"s though! He could be anything!I"m sticking to my Collateral Damage at 25/1, now to walk the course, clubs in hand!
March 25, 2010 at 12:56 #285499Having just got back from Doncaster,i can say the ground is not as Soft as i expected,it is defineately on the Good side of soft in my not very professional opinion, the weather is mild and sunny, with a slight breeze, the locals say they have had very little rain this week, but some heavy showers are forecast! Now i have the huge dilemma of choosing between 3 of my favourite sprinters for the Cammidge,
Inxile
,
Tax Free
who unbelievably gets weight
and the very progressiveEvens and Odds
! Another Regal Parade,this fellow!
March 25, 2010 at 13:10 #285502A weather update tomorrow would be good as Saturday looks like being a bright day.
If the weather is fine I’ll tell you what I’m backing otherwise the bets off.
March 25, 2010 at 13:24 #285508Fry, no offence, but why would we care what you’re backing?
March 25, 2010 at 13:39 #285514Penitent in stall 1, low numbers seem best at Doncaster so everything looks perfect for a bold bid, expect lower than 5/1 come race time.
March 25, 2010 at 14:08 #285518I’m quite prepared to look a bit daft but can’t have the fav at all.
Lucky to dead-heat two starts ago, his form figures would be 222
he travelled well lto and found not very much, and at Kempton he couldn’t get away form modest rivals and here he is on 98, doesn’t strike me as well-in at all and the bookies have been falling over themselves to highlight his chance. He’s nothing like the class of Expresso on racecourse evidence yet is going to be hyped into the same sp.
There, said it!
March 25, 2010 at 14:45 #285524I think it’s difficult to knock Penintent’s form and profile. But I can see why people would want to get him beat now he’s no bigger than 7/2. He’s potentially on the wrong side, there looks to be more pace high than low, and he may need a bit of luck as Murtagh will have only one place to go on the rail, but the simple matter is that the Lincoln is usually won by a horse passing through to Group company and this horse looks much more likely to be a force in pattern company than the vast majority of his rivals.
