richbowman,
If the horse is ballotted out, you will get your money back.
Harris Tweed was favourite for the Ebor last year, when William Haggas realised he wouldn’t ‘get in’ he ran him in another race, but left him among the Ebor entries so that punters who had backed him got their money back under the ballotting out rule. The difference here though, is that there is a consolation race for horses that don’t make the cut. Effectively, Kalk Bay would have to run in that for you to get your money back.
I’m in a similar situation having backed Gunner Lindley and Breakheart – both of whom are outside the ’22’. I’m desperate for Gunner Lindley to make the cut, as connections appear to have hinted that if he doesn’t make the Lincoln proper, then they will go for Newbury’s spring cup.
The perils of ante post betting, I guess
March 25, 2011 at 15:11 #347185Thanks Bigwolf – I wont be making that mistake again. I’m pretty sure that William Haggas said Kalk Bay that wont run in the consolation race. Good luck with your runners.

I was at Goodwood last summer and remember the bad run encountered by AL MUHEER in the Golden Mile, if Doncaster gets a dry week and the draw is kind the 40-1 could seem very big. his mark now looks a winning one and will be interesting if he sticks one of his lads claiming on it
March 25, 2011 at 19:35 #347229I fancy Alan Jarvis’ Navajo Chief for this. 4 y o, not too high in the weights, decent form of late although struggled moving up to group company. Will be sharper than some coming off winter breaks (he hopes!).
March 27, 2011 at 05:35 #347426It’s not hard to imagine Irish Heartbeat cruising just behind the leaders entering the final furlong in a fortnight’s time, such is the ease with which he travels in his races. The big question is what he will find thereafter. He barely gets a mile. It looks like a back-to-lay scenario, for me.
I’m with you on that, 2-2 at Doncaster, goes well fresh and trained by Richard Fahey. Not much more you could ask for.
March 28, 2011 at 16:04 #347631Haven’t had a detailed look at this race yet, but one issue to take into account is the forecasted weather for the 2nd half of this week.
Wet and windy to come – could quite easily change the ground at Doncaster, after this prolonged dry spell.
I’ll be leaving any betting until Friday eve/Saturday morn.March 29, 2011 at 08:48 #347709I too am hoping that Gunner Lindley gets in as i am on him ante post along with Prime Exhibit. It is looking increasingly unlikely that Gunner will make the line up! Compensation awaits though
March 29, 2011 at 17:13 #347756I’m quite keen on Penitent to do the double. His collateral form with Skysurfers – if he’s improved half as much – makes him look well-handicapped. Rain is apparently expected, too.
Comparisons with the ratings of Babodana, an earlier winner under top weight, also make good reading.
I just hope the rain comes and he runs in the race. I believe he was the early favourite, and that, before Skysurfer’s wins at Meydan. Strange business, odds-making.
Nicholls’ Dream Lodge is now my no 1, Docofthebay, no 2, of the exposed runners; the former seems a standout bet.
March 31, 2011 at 09:22 #348014Charlie Hills has just posted on Twitter that Gunner Lindley has made the cut.
March 31, 2011 at 10:54 #348031Richard Fahey 6 runners?
David Nicholls 4 runners?Come on lads, that’s just being greedy. Between you, you’ve messed up my ante post on Kalk Bay
March 31, 2011 at 11:25 #348037You know what they say:
"If you think you have 6 Lincoln Handicap horses then you have none"
March 31, 2011 at 11:35 #348039Gunner Lindley I agree is an interesting runner, but…with ‘soft’ in the going description; 12421
Without; 4225865
What would also worry me is that both victories came on soft (debut victory officially on ‘good to soft’ but official time, video and RP analysis suggests much more testing. Also drawn in 18 which isn’t great.
I’m on Irish Heartbeat at 16s and wouldn’t swap him for anything.

Very good.
Not strictly a question re the Lincoln, but I see Kalk Bay has been entered in the Spring Mile. Can anyone enlighten me as to what this means for my Ante Post bet on him for the Lincoln? Is it returned as he was balloted out?
Thanks in advance
March 31, 2011 at 12:09 #348046If he was balloted out then stakes are refunded
March 31, 2011 at 13:24 #348061Rich: You get your dosh back
Zarks: I agree with your remarks about Gunner and there is no sign of rain so maybe i should not have wished for him maiing the cut after all Monies down down so time will tell.
March 31, 2011 at 14:33 #348068Anyone concerned about Taqleed being 0-2 under Dickie Hills and 2-2 under other jocks?
March 31, 2011 at 15:14 #348074Zark: I would be more concerned with the going! Personally despite him looking a Group horse i firmly believe he needs cut and the ground is going to be gd at worst!
I have addressed the trends/draw and there is only one horse who comes out 100%, that is
Good Luck one and all -
