“I went to see the producer but he was just getting over a terrible turn. Mike and Bernie Winters”.
As said by Ronnie Corbett, in one of his monologues.
And here is the proof:

If so, they’ll have been earning more than either Morecambe And Wise or The Two Ronnies, which would help explain the bitching about them by manifestly better acts.
It’s a bit like Arkle bitching about Quixall Crossett – no need, show your quality and say nothing.

Kenneth Williams, someone who was no stranger to dishing out criticism and insults, was always nice about Bernie Winters in his published diaries.
June 24, 2023 at 15:26 #1653369M and W ere in a different league both in talent and earnings compared to the Winters , remember they were with ATV in the 60s and then came back to Thames in 78 , they werent short of a Bob or 2, they also earned much more on the live circuit
June 24, 2023 at 15:28 #1653370No need to slate an inferior act, then, IMO.

M and WJune 28, 2023 at 08:47 #1653779It was a particularly good episode of “Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads” on BBC4 last night, when Bob was trying to move his treasured possessions from his youth into his new house but Thelma put her foot down. A warning sign there, Bob!
The episode featured an appearance as a desk sergeant by the marvellous actor Robert Gillespie, still going strong aged 90. He was consistently excellent throughout his career.
His twitter account is very enjoyable, with generous reflections on so many of the great names he worked with over the years. He has obviously enjoyed the acting life.
He is one of a very small group of people still with us who appeared in an episode of “Dad’s Army”. He played Charles Boyer playing Napoleon in a film the platoon was watching in the cinema.
One of those actors who ought to be better known and more appreciated.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 26, 2023 at 08:56 #1656569The first series reached its end on BBC4 last night, with Bob finally marrying Thelma and Terry serving as best man.
When Bob said they needed to leave at about 2.20pm, Terry said they should wait “because the two thirty at Chepstow is on the box”.
At least someone had his priorities right!
I hope the other series are shown as well.
July 26, 2023 at 09:00 #1656570Chepstow was a BBC-televised course back then – the BBC were very clever about that sort of thing back in those days.

She was very good as Thelma, which was not a very sympathetic role. The scene where she inadvertently gets into bed with Terry thinking he is Bob is very funny.
