I truly wish NC had stood up and perhaps shed more light on that Gold Cup form. We know ED isn’t capable of getting near Kauto Star so if you think he would have beaten NC what does that tell us about how far Kauto was out of sync………….food for thought and it’s bound to add zest to the "Thrilla up the Hilla" come March…….pathetic poetry at it’s best
I’m not saying for a minute that Exotic Dancer can beat Kauto Star in the Gold Cup, but it’s a lot closer between them on a left-handed track. Paul Nicholls wasn’t exuding confidence about his fitness before the race, so read what you will into Neptune Collanges effort before he fell.
Exotic Dancer loves Cheltenham and I don’t think he’ll be too far away come March.
December 28, 2008 at 20:52 #199879Those who doubted Exotic Dancer hands up!!
Exactly the same as Kauto had injury problems last season looked back to himself first run this then disappointed in that funny old race at Haydock.
If you kept the faith with two top class horses you could’ve had a hell of a Christmas.
Great to see the old boy finally get the bigun he deserves.
My hands are up highest of all…guess I should have listened to those in the know Been some weekend win a bundle on Kauto and lost the lot on a faller and a non runner (unless by some miracle)..surprised I’m still here
I am delighted for Jonjo he made a decison and boy has it paid off….1st in the Lexus 2nd in the King George not a bad days wages is it?
I agree with what you said in your other post he looked like he may well have won anyway although he wasn’t going anywhere after the last.

Fist you don’t let anyone forget it when you are right but you also are big enough to admit when you get it wrong, fair play to you mate.
Paul Nicholls said in a pre race interview that Neptune would probably come on a bit for the run but was straight enough to run his race. He’s a stayer and will be better suited by the Gold Cup than he was today IMO.
Exotic Dancer I don’t fancy for the Gold Cup I think the trip / course test his stamina to the limit I think he’s best at 3 miles / 3m 1f (2m 6f in an really stiff test), the Gold Cup especially when run on soft ground at a pace like last year can seem like 3m 4f and Denman / Neptune won’t let it be run at a crawl.
Conditions suited Exotic Dancer today, fast pace, 3 miles, left handed and at peak I have him as a better horse than Neptune Collonges by three or four pounds. He was idling after the last as he generally does when in front which is why connections started to hold him up in the first place way back when.
The Ryanair would be a great target for him IMO but Robert Ogden / Barry Simpson also have Voy Por Ustedes so I expect they’ll aim him at the Gold Cup. Aintree’s Betfair Bowl at the end of the season is another target that could suit him.
December 28, 2008 at 21:31 #199893I think on that score we have to wait and see what comes out of the discussions with SRO Jonjo and of course AP.
I think you are correct in saying ED simply can’t win the Gold Cup (famous last words) but a place in the Gold Cup with a remote chance of winning and the possible prestige often wins the day. So who knows what they will do. It’s not beyond the realms of possibilty that SRO will agree to running both in the Ryanair if AP drops a bombshell and says he would prefer to ride the younger and improving Albertas Run. I suppose his next run will tell us and them more.
Jonjo and SRO have been at the game long enough to know the man who knows best is the man in the plate and probably a lot will depend on what he thinks on what runs where.
December 28, 2008 at 22:26 #199903Exotic was awesome today. he deserves extra credit as he was badly hampered by the riderless The Listener on the first circuit and lost 3 or 4 lengths. He was always galloping over them and would have won a minute even if Neptune stood up. One funny postscript was Ruby hitching a lift back on Snowy Morning by riding him to the winning line where he met Neptune and Paul Nicholls and they held a post-mortem on the fall- the horse looked fine to me.
You’ve got to say that Exotic deserved this, so often has he been the bridesmaid in the past couple of seasons. His confidence will be sky-high after this.December 28, 2008 at 22:33 #199905One funny postscript was Ruby hitching a lift back on Snowy Morning by riding him to the winning line where he met Neptune and Paul Nicholls and they held a post-mortem on the fall- the horse looked fine to me..
Is that true? ? ?
December 28, 2008 at 22:37 #199909Yeah that had been bothering me. i thought my eyes were playing up when i saw that, Ruby in the yellow with red star silks on a horse that definitely wasn’t Nippy. At least i can cancel my appointment with specsavers now.
Blackbeard to conquer the World
December 28, 2008 at 23:42 #199928Haven’t had a chance to see the race yet as I was at Leicester and there was a clash
However it is good to see Exotic Dancer winning a big race and all credit to connections for going to Leopardstown instead of Kempton.
We could debate whether he would still have won had Nipper stayed on his feet until the cows come home. However the record books will say he won and, at the end of the day, that is what counts.
I have probably bought the horse over the years the times I have backed yet, typically, I did not play in the race this afternoon – oh well that’s racing.
December 29, 2008 at 00:10 #199936I just viewed it again, this time without the lag and you could clearly see AP taking a pull at the 3rd last he was going so well. Ruby was getting at NC while AP was sitting motionless and hadn’t lost any ground on him whatsoever by the time they reached the 2nd last when NC came down……….no doubt AP would have waited a bit longer had NC stood up but the writing was on the wall and there can be little doubt which would have won IMO.
December 29, 2008 at 02:50 #199987i just hope nipper is alrite!!!!!!!!!however personally he would def av one if stood up to rubys crap stride>>>>>>…c not just sam who gets fence wrong. glad to c gd old woa run gd race x
As far as I can tell from your semi-literate ramblings you seem to be blaming Ruby for getting "Nippy" on the floor. That’s the greatest load of bull I’ve heard for some time- he asked the horse up, he put in an extra stride and clipped the top- something he’s done countless times before. I suggest you learn to write and how to watch a race.
December 29, 2008 at 03:15 #200002Thats a little harsh, Carv….
Beckster’s allowed to have her opinion.
Regarding Ruby’s ride, I personally didnt see anything wrong with it but I wasnt watching NC too closely when he fell. I was watching how ED was jumping.
However, Sam took exactly the same lead up on Big Bucks a month or so ago and got slaughtered for it on here and in the media. Ruby gets unseated and nobody bats an eyelid.
Whilst I appreciate it’s only one U on the record it’s a bit unfair for Ruby and Sam not to be treated equally in pretty similar circumstances.

who r u to tell some1 semi literate??? and secondly its nipper not nippy!!! get it rite!! now if u can manage to go back n read again it says he would av stood up if ruby wasent on crap stride, do u know what one of those is??? he got to deap…and more importantly to prove that all jockys get stridin bit of sometimes!!! however dont feel i need respond to a rude disgrunteld punter……………. no offence really
December 29, 2008 at 03:31 #200016sounds as if Nipper’s ok anyway beckster; thats the important thing!
December 29, 2008 at 04:15 #200038I apologise if I took you up wrong, but the way you write it’s hardly surprising you’re misunderstood sometimes. For the record I didn’t back the horse.

If you re-read your original post, beckster, it does sound as though you’re blaming Ruby for Nipper’s fall. And, whilst Carv could have gone about making his point somewhat more politely, you have to appreciate that it is sometimes difficult to understand what you’re trying to say.
December 29, 2008 at 08:31 #200086I am pissed.
I have not watched the race.
I hear NP fell whilst cantering.
I backed NP.
I think RW has been turned over on plenty of well backed favs since his return. I think ST[u:16vzztr4] would[/u:16vzztr4] have been crucified if RW was still on the sidelines.
Thats racing I guess. If you want justice go to Brussels!
Whoever told you NC (if thats who you mean) was cantering when falling saw a different race than I did!
RW had started to cajole NC from the third last, while ED was pulling a bus. The only danger to ED was whether he’d got there too soon. The winner would probably have won near enough on the bridle had NC stayed up…IMO. ED didn’t do a tap when left in front and sauntered home by 20 lengths from a legless WOA. I’m sure you’ll agree when you see it

To be fair to Ruby it looked like the writing was on the wall and his best chance was to go for a big one and make a few lengths…..Neptune C had different ideas and never took off until too late….happens every day and Sam went through hell for the same thing as you say. He stood back and took it but the difference with Ruby is he would tell the lot of them incluing PN to fook of and die if they tried that crap on with him
December 29, 2008 at 19:43 #200233ED seemed very fluent in marked contrast to other recent runs where he has put in very scruffy rounds . Perhaps Leopardstown was right up his street . With three fallers in the race you`d hardly say the fences were easy but Beef or Salmon handled Leopardstown too.
