Levy deal agreed bring on the dross

Since I started taking an interest in racing there has always been the suggestion that the big owners will disappear overseas because of the poor prize money etc.

It is, of course, a total red herring.

As is the case when things that are unpalatable to some people are suggested, the scare factor is introduced. And, predictably, it never happens.

Whenever it is suggested that taxes are put up for the better off, there are always those who suggest that all the rich people will leave the country in protest at being put in such an intolerable position.

And it never happens. They stay and put up with it, like the rest of us have to do.

It’s the same with racing. The idea that the big owners will desert this country in droves because there is more "dross" racing and a thinner share of the prize money at the top is absolute nonsense.
