Now that its been officially announced, this takes RUK to 37 UK tracks.
ATR have lost 7 since 2012 .. Ascot, Exeter (Bought by JCR so was expected), Perth, Kelso, Stratford, Taunton, Leicester.
So raises a few questions, what is it overall with RUK / RMG business model that even though the viewing audience for the RUK channel is paltry racecourses seem happy to go with them. Are the on course sponsors happy?
Secondly what is wrong with ATR’s business model that every time rights come up for grabs they seem to lose courses to RUK. Can ATR really survive longterm?
January 12, 2017 at 19:58 #1281633Leicester & Stratford wanted to follow SIS to RUK as they are loyal to them and SIS is providing the feed for RUK soon.
Taunton we do not know but HD may have something to do with it and with the other smaller jumps tracks around them with RUK could also have a factor.
Newton Abbot is very much out on a limb sticking with ATR
ATR are very much reliant now on keeping the Irish rights from January 2018 and ensuring they keep the all weather as a dominant force, the possibility of the Jockey Club building at Newmarket can’t have been the best news they have received.
ATR need HD asap for a start and maybe when the time comes to tempt Ascot back but that is a few years away.
January 13, 2017 at 23:56 #1281879Taunton have hinted they have jumped ship because most of the other small NH tracks have moved to RUK as well. Looks like ATR is going to have to sell itself as all weather and irish and Doncaster as it’s premier track.
They have got to retain the irish next year or else how can they survive extending the rights for just one year was probably not the best move they have made should have really tried for a longer deal.

January 16, 2017 at 15:22 #1282356Shame. I can’t/won’t pay extra over my Sky subscription to get RUK so if ATR goes I’ll be left with only the big jumps meetings in December/January, March and April.
