Good choice I think, but we’ll see.
I had a good laugh over the followng comment:
“… while in a significant boost to Channel 4 the under-fire network was yesterday described by Jockey Club chief executive Simon Bazalgette as “in pole position” to retain its grip on the sport from 2017.”
Come on folks, who else could they get to do it? Beeb and ITV aren’t interested, C5 can’t afford it and would get even worse viewing figures than C4!
March 12, 2015 at 21:08 #829659He’s hardly going to pull in the viewers is he Lord Snooty, more likely to put people off.
As for Simon Bazalgette I think he needs to wake up and smell the coffee about how unpopular racing is to the majority of terrestrial television, following the lead of show jumping and greyhound racing
March 12, 2015 at 21:20 #829662Don’t like how they feel the need to bring in ‘celebs’ to co host. What is gok wan really going to bring to the program?
I would also prefer it if they kept dettori to the flat stuff. I would much rather listen to the insights of someone who actually jumps a fence.
Maybe it’s just me though
March 12, 2015 at 21:40 #829683No it’s me too…
I'd like to live in a place where they cordon off swans...March 12, 2015 at 22:25 #830019Nick Luck comes across as a top bloke – great choice.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 12, 2015 at 22:31 #830037Well said AKP and burroughill, I thoroughly agree. Let big head Dettori and Gok Wan do Royal Ascot if they must. Why not bring back Francombe and bring in Mattie Batchelor, both know what they are talking about and are pleasant to listen to.
March 13, 2015 at 09:47 #830595Nick Luck – obvious choice as it would have been an injustice to parachute in a “celeb” presenter. (John Inverdale done himself no favours this week when getting “rose tinted” confused with the C-Bomb!)
Does a good job week in, week out – unlike la Balding who’s role this week at Cheltenham seems to be Tuvalu…

Not convinced that a gentleman of Mr Luck’s breeding and hinterland would appreciate being described as a “top bloke” but your lumpen description is accurate enough nevertheless Mr Davies. ‘Good egg’, ‘decent cove’ and ‘to the manner born’ would be more appropriate
I do hope he grows a small lip-weasel and purchases a bespoke trilby as then he will truly be a worthy successor to the doyen of racing presenters – John Rickman
March 13, 2015 at 10:36 #830695The cheapest option, so not surprising, but rather depressing all the same.
These national sporting events should be fronted by someone who can connect with the wider public.
Luck is a pleasant enough fellow, I believe, but surely C4 can do better than a George Osborne look-alike who got his entree into the sport solely because he went to Harrow and Daddy was something to do with Newbury racecourse.
Don’t mind Gok and Frankie being on board, at least they’re enthusastic and not dry-as-dust.
March 13, 2015 at 11:43 #830746Nick Luck, affable chap I don’t know personally, but gave me a positive plug on RUK once donkeys years ago and thrilled my son by speaking to him at Newbury races a while back.
Plus his tongue in cheek humour is right up my street.
I defy anyone to dislike the Luckmeister!
