Thanks Marlingford.
I wouldn’t do this at a meeting with a few hundred in attendance, perhaps when a couple of thousand or more are expected go through the gate. It’s something if successful and people like it could go up a notch. People could pay £5 a ticket, but the money in the pool for the race could amount to quite a lot.

We’ve just had them for 3 weeks in Scotland, but now they are allowed back in!
January 20, 2022 at 17:17 #1578887I’d love to see a race course try and enforce a “No Riff Raff” day. Half the owners and a good proportion of millionaires wouldn’t get past the gates, and those are just the ones with titles.
January 20, 2022 at 17:30 #1578891Owner ” What do mean I can’t come in , I’m a owner ”
Man on Gate ” Sorry squire , I’ve been told to politely tell you to **** off”
January 20, 2022 at 18:37 #1578895Agree GSP, that idea would be very much one for bigger occasions. I like in particular how it could potentially include all racegoers.
January 20, 2022 at 19:11 #1578899For avoidance of doubt, I meant “riff raff” in the sense John Cleese’s Basil Fawlty used the term in Fawlty Towers and not the old 70s rock track by AC/DC.

January 20, 2022 at 23:16 #1578911True Marlingford. The idea wouldn’t actually take a great deal to sort out if properly organised.
A racetrack could try this and see how it goes down with racegoers. If the feedback isn’t favourable then it just stops there and then. If it’s decent then there’s potential to roll this out at most racetracks.January 21, 2022 at 07:42 #1578937How about a “No Racing” day?
Ideal for frosty times of the year and ideal occasions to have live music and DJs “after racing” without ever having to pretend the racing actually mattered or was really an integral part of the product being sold.
It would also, most importantly of all, keep all of those awful people well away from ME.

January 21, 2022 at 08:21 #1578940Once again, Richard picks up the ball and runs with it – excellent supplementary idea, sir!

January 21, 2022 at 08:34 #1578943The good ideas just keep coming – brilliant, Alan!
For me, one of the most hilarious marketing ideas EVER was to combine Hunter Chase evening at Cheltenham by selling the meeting to the local Cheltenham night club crowd as a DJ- and alcohol-fuelled Friday night rave.
It’s inevitable messy denouement ensured I will NEVER attend that meeting EVER again.

A huntsman all dressed up gets a head start
From a pack of lions that haven’t eaten for a week. Only fair to balance things out a bit isnt it?
A chortling commentary from thommo to add a final touch
And we laughed
