Walking home from the shops today I passed by a rather gorgeous hunk obviously on his way to a hot date. He stunk to high heaven of some after shave I’ve never smelt before – he absolutely reeked of it…urgh!!!!!…
and it was none too masculine either – certainly did nothing for me.

What’s wrong with people today that they need this stuff. Where have all the real men gone?

A man should smell of Guinness, sweat and pickled onions (The Thin Blue Line)

A real lady should swoon at the thought of an intimate weekend enveloped in the trousery musk subtly developed over the working week by a real gentleman; that fine fellow for whom Sunday night is reluctantly reserved for a long bath and change of underwear

Add the judicious application to neck and wrists of Geo F Trumper’s Eau de Quinine and the earth that lovely weekend can’t help but move at less than 9.3 on the Richter scale

Splash it awl ova sez ‘enry

I don’t do perfume .. I used to know a bloke that sprayed himself with pheromones every night, he smelt like a mint and it didn’t work.

A couple of squirts of after shave before a night out never went amiss, but it should never be overpowering or made by brut or old spice.

However I have never and dont think will ever understand lads wearing aftershave to work, especially lads that work almost entirely with other lads, theres definitely some sort of insecurity thing going on there, perhaps with a little hint of bentness.

A hint of eau sauvage never went amiss with me, as opposed to salt and vin. crisps and beer.

Mingling with the over-dressed at race meetings is quite a challenge to the olfactory system, and it tends to be the besuited lads who are most pungent

One-time trainer and sometime TV pundit Mick Naughton (where is he now?) tended to be smelt before being seen

Too many make the error of applying an after shave with a scent at odds to what can loosely be defined as a body spray. If a cologne is to be aimed at various hairy bits then use a scentless after shaving balm

If in doubt I’d recommend no more than a thorough scrubbing with loofa and Wright’s coal tar soap. If it was good enough for your grandad its good enough for you :)

It’s blokes who use face cream and astringent toner who seriously worry me. At one point, male skin creams were the fastest growing market in the entire cosmetics industry.

Moe, it’s Nova Scotia in Canada (possibly just Halifax, the capital), which bans the wearing of aftershave – as I found out to my cost.

A few years ago I rushed into Boots to buy some perfume that Barefoot Doctor had just bought out which was supposed to be irresisible to men..they had to go and unpack some for me as it had only just arrived!

Aftershave for me was always seen as a little treat for the ladies should they get close enough and succumb to my physical and verbal charms. Just a little squirt in a few strategic places and then when warmed, the true unique odour would flow.

Whilst on the subject of smells – am I the only one who finds the smell of alcohol (but not when they’re drunk) on womans breath quite pleasing? My girlfriend thinks the same, but on men and me of course…well, just me really :?

Should get CK Escape, Paco Rabanne’s Black XS or Paul Smith Extreme – the best aftershaves out there. Or Old Spice for the elderly

It’s called Chi Qui..I’ve just dug a bottle out of the drawer and put some on but it might have gone off [it’s a bit old, like me!] I’d actually love some of the guys to buy it for their womenfolk and tell me if it works [it did at the time; I’d just been dumped and wanted to get him back so I could do the dumping..yes chaps, us girls really are that devious]

If you’re going out with a bloke, say, for a meal etc. then I don’t mind a whiff of something or other as long as it’s not too overpowering, but once you’re getting all steamy under the covers or wherever takes your fancy, then I like my man to smell of man 8)

I cringe when I look back at my teenage years and, dare I mention it, Hai Karate

I now wear aftershave so rarely I’m sure if I slapped some on now then Mrs O would become immediately suspicious and wonder what, or who, I was up to, but when I do it is Givenchy Gentleman – and I only discovered one that after I was bought some by a holiday rep called Jessica who showed me some delightful sights in San Francisco that certainly were not in the guide book and nearly got her sacked.
