Persistence pays off. Thanks all; I think I blinded them with your wisdom :)

Ladbrokes gave me a free bet … then took it back

Not really a free bet when they take it back from your winnings is it? More like a ‘lend’. Pretty mean sprinted really.
You have to feel for them though, poor guys dont have a lot of cash <!– s:roll: –><!– s:roll: –>

    RD,

Are you sure they have just not refunded the stake that you did NOT have on?

    eg.

    A normal £10 bet @ 3/1 wins £30 plus your £10 stake for a return of £40.

A £10 free bet @ 3/1 wins £30, but as (in effect) it is their money staked, your return is also £30.

Can not expect them to give stake money as winnings, that you did not "stake" in the first place.

A free bet does not include the stake, a complimentary bet does.

It was one of those ‘place a £10 bet, get a free £10 bet’ on joining deals, so I placed a Canadian for £13 and had one winning line – rtns £0.00. I was told the reason for the zero rtn was because the first £10 of returns gets taken as the ‘stake’.
As I said, it is really mean spirited really and hardly a free bet if they are scraping it back from the winnings.
The definitions of ‘free’ and ‘complimentary’ are just picking at straws really. It was a bet that returned around 60p and they grabbed it back. The good will between customer and company would have been better served to let the customer keep the 60p surely? Instead, they made me feel like I got shafted.
Bad move, as there are plenty of other online bookies I can bet with.

I really cannot see your problem.

If that is your opinion, then so be it. But to me, a free gift that is taken back later is hardly a generous offer. More like a scam to invite the initial signup and cash bet.

Having read your bet, I am wondering if your next £10 bet will be the free one? If the canadian was the free bet I presume it would have cost you £3 as opposed to £13. One winning line meaning you had 2 winners on the bet. A winning line should be paid less the 50p unit stake of the bet as £12.50 of it is a loser. Also note any non-runners in free bets automatically go onto the favourite.

Correct. It was just one line, for two places so just a place double.

It’s been a while so I am not 100% sure of the rules but I would have settled it as a place double less the 25p unit stake. You are entitled to your "winnings". I would call or email them and say that only 25p of the bet was a winner so that should be the reduction from your return not £13.

You are right, that is how I too would have done it. If you have ten £1 win doubles and get two winners then you have £1 deducted from your winnings for one £1 win double, NOT the whole bloody tenner from the single winning bet.

I never bother with any of that.

Bet365 are always mailing me saying I haven’t used the complimentary bet they gave me. I think: no, I haven’t. You have placed a silly ‘play your stake or winnings three times round before you can take it out’ rule on it. I don’t want to know. That stuff is all for mugs.
