Minefield…….
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/187/leopardstown/2020-02-01/749890
The type of race where I used to love an Antepost punt, but even once a market up, wouldn’t go near it until Final Decs.
Few jump out obviously, but impossible to call right now.
Janidil – Strikes me as a horse who we haven’t seen the best of, and I thought he might have been a Supreme horse at start of season. Very promising type, who’s done nothing wrong, and good chance this time next year he’ll have a lot higher profile.
Top Moon – Like Janidil, owned by JP, and looked like one to consider for one of the big festivals, ever since his effort at Listowel in September.
Soviet Pimpernel – Peter Fahey trained runner who looks to have a live chance here. Very impressive at Limerick over Christmas, and I doubt that’s as good as he is.
Jetez – On the evidence of his run in this last year, his win at the track earlier in the season would have him too high in the weights. I’m not convinced that’s the case though, and his overall form suggests that he might be one to keep an eye on after an extended break. From top yard as well, and I like him.
Daybreak Boy – Outstanding run here at Christmas, and a paltry 4lb rise shouldn’t stop him repeating it.
Thosedaysaregone – Market support would be significant for him. Not the most reliable, and bare form leaves him with a bit to find, but I’ve had my eye on him since his early days, and until he completely confirms otherwise, he’s one I’m sure’s got a big Handicap in him.
The Mouse Doctor – Another who I’ve always thought had a big Handicap in him, either over timber or on the level. Confirmed his well-being the other day at Musselburgh. Yard has stronger looking candidates, but I just really like this one.
Early thoughts only, and with a field like that, no surprise if I change my mind.

Thought Janidil would be fav, so the 10’s is tempting.
January 28, 2020 at 18:09 #1481144It’s still a minefield, but at least Janidil is out of the equation.
I could see me going three handed in this, and Top Moon is a fair price at 8’s. I’ll wait till Final Decs though for him, even if I miss that price, which would be likely.
Thosedaysaregone and Daybreak Boy remain of serious interest, but it’s The Mouse Doctor though, at 33’s, who has to be bet just now.
He should get in, trainers type of race, he’s in form, has ran well here before, and surely ahead of his mark. Mad price.
The Mouse Doctor 33’s
The Mouse Doctor 25’s EW 5 PlacesJanuary 28, 2020 at 22:19 #1481158I agree with Top Moon VtC, but I’ll take the same approach here, and wait. I think that with McManus having other entries, the price won’t dip too much.
January 29, 2020 at 09:58 #1481177Proper minefield. Unexcepted coould be anything off 137 and hurdles fluently for one so inexperienced.
I think that Top Moon form is solid with Alfa Mix.
Buttercup will come swinging and find FA as usual.
I’ve had it in my mind for sometime that Tiger Tap Tap would enjoy a big handicap field. He doesn’t do anything flash and lost his way as a juvenile. First run this year could be put down to needing the run as many Mullins have done. The form of his 2nd run this year is solid enough. The second might even run in the G1 this weekend, but he’d be a lot less exposed than Tiger. Jazzaway has also won a mares hurdle, while the 2nd disappointed. He travels very well so well i hope big field will suit him and in theory there’s room off 136.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 29, 2020 at 15:38 #1481211The Moyglass Flyer 11/1
Won snug LTO at the C&D and being by Galileo should really enjoy the decent ground. Very lightly raced and bred out of a Group 1 mare, think he can continue to improve at a rate of knots.
January 29, 2020 at 18:06 #1481224Thatsy at 10-1 fits the bill for me, but I will wait until the weekend.
January 30, 2020 at 16:09 #1481307The Mouse Doctor sneaks in, but not going to be any easier picking a back up.
Top Moon is the common sense one, but Daybreak Boy and Thosedaysaregone appeal at the prices.
At the moment just the mouse for me.
January 31, 2020 at 18:01 #1481439Just couldn’t justify more than two in this, so I took the Byrnes horse as the backup.
Thosedaysaregone 25’s
January 31, 2020 at 19:33 #1481448I’ve sort of changed my view on this. Purely because i could see a number of the front of the market win and i don’t feel strongly enough on any of them to warrant a bet at the prices.
Gone with:
Thosedaysaregone and Fan De Blues. Both 25s.
The first is quite obvious is that the trainer has a great record in the race + he has been eye catching once or twice, and clearly campaigned to try and win a decent pot.
The other isn’t so clear. He was crazy underwhelming for an 8/13f who had 10 starts before joiningg WPM. However, it’s worth considering the fact he debuted in a time when WPM wasn’t firing on all cylinders especially with first time out horses. He probably ran like he’d need further, but i’m hoping that’s mainly down to fitness. Mullins quotes after the race indicated how big he looked. His french form is solid if not spectacular but with a very good 5lb claimer on, he’s running off 120. I’d really hope he has a little in hand at least. This race could come too soon, but at the price i think he’s worth guessing on.Twitter: Jackh1092

February 1, 2020 at 16:34 #1481627Fan De Blue ran a cracker + was hammered in the market. I will be watching him going forward as he was tryijng to do it the hard way today and he faired well.
Another Byrnes Beauty! What a nice ride. Horse has some amount in hand. Decent days punting.

Well done Jack.
