It looks like we’ll be seeing Kingsgate Native running in some of the top sprints this year after Cheveley Park Stud announced that out of 20 mares covered so far this season, none have been tested in-foal.
It could be one of those cases like Honeyway’s, where a young stallion produces sperm of inadequate quality as a 4-y-o, but may attain normal fertility after a year or two.
But, 0/20 suggests a congenital and permanent sperm abnormality, like that which afflicted the outstanding American horse, Cigar, and that will spell curtains for his stud career.
Bad news for the horse’s owners, not to mention the insurance company taking on the risk, but it would be great, as an outsider, to see him back in action on the track.

March 17, 2009 at 00:51 #216887Endless Power was another who had crap motilty and ended up racing again…..
I would have thought the insurance company would have had his sperm tested before he got near a mare?
March 17, 2009 at 01:26 #216901Perhaps it was the gelding operation that affected Endless Power’s fertility. Do you mean the 2-y-o that never was, Endless Summer?
March 17, 2009 at 01:30 #216903That was one, the judmonte horse born in december ( silly sods for covering mares for january foals, its bordering on cruletly).
