Yes, Mastercraftsman looks like the new Danehill Dancer. Mastercraftsman hasn’t had the qualify of mares that Sea The Stars enjoyed, but produces more precocious types among his very healthy quota of G1 winners.
Danehill Dancer was a success because of his ability to ‘upgrade’ lesser mares and his grey son looks to have the same knack already. The distance versatility of Mastercraftsman’s damsire Black Tie Affair is also probably helping him to produce everything from sharp sprinters to St Leger winners. It’s a very timely boost for Coolmore with Montjeu dead, Galileo getting deeper into his teens and Danehill Dancer recently pensioned.
September 24, 2014 at 16:18 #490838When Australia does go to stud it will be interesting to see how he gets on. High chaparral could develop even more with free eagle flying the flag for him. Soon be time to see Camelot and so you thinks offspring so plenty of ammo for coolmore to come yet. Breeding has never been so competitive.

Love this.
How can the general public get the chance to latch onto a horse who has been around for the best part of 22 months? All three star 3-y-o’s retired, terrible.
September 25, 2014 at 12:04 #490865Kingman isn’t the first top class 3 year old to be retired to stud , and he won’t be the last.
I think the owner has made the correct decision in view of the circumstances. Why spoil the horse’s reputation if , because of illness, Kingman raced again and was beaten by horses he has laughed at previously.
Kingman is one of the best milers I have seen – he won me a good few quid . His turn of foot was a sight to behold . The way he quickened away from another top class horse, Toronado , at Goodwood , was proof ( if proof were needed ) of his brilliance .
I hate to see champion racehorses tarnish their reputations by going to the well once too often . Happy retirement champ.

But at least Toronado was raced long enough to try to give weight to younger horses. With Kingman we’ll never know.
September 25, 2014 at 17:44 #490875Toronado had a breathing problem but it didn’t stop him from giving racing a big shot as a 4 year old.
Cirrus Des Aigles has had his share of problems but it didn’t stop him from running some sublime races. Yes, he’s a gelding but look at the consistent level of excellence he’s maintained throughout his career.
Kingman has a sore throat. A strong course of antibiotics, a bit of patience and TLC could’ve of seen him back next season … and maybe even better.
No doubt there’ll be those who’ll say the same old boring chestnut "He has nothing left to prove" … but hey, everything to prove at 4 years eh?
I love to see my racing legends being warriors on the track for a bit more longer because that’s what racing should be all about right?

Hard to argue with that.
