Only horse what is getting anywhere near kauto on boxing day is ALBERTAS RUN,

And only if the king has an off day! He never misses a beat round kempton and its become a tradition over the last few years to watch Kauto and Ruby do what they do best.

Cant wait for the jumps season to hit full flow.

Looks like Kauto Star may have some proper opposition this year, the plan is for Sizing Europe to take the staying route this season, I always felt h’d be better over 3 miles
Quote Henry De Bromhead (Sporting Life) "We’re hoping to start him off in a two-mile-six-furlong conditions race at Punchestown in the middle of October and we just want to see how he’d get on over a trip."

That’ll sounds like the Grade 3 Star Chase, also rumoured to be An Siorrac’s comeback race. Lets hope there’s a decent field and a true run race as this could be one of the most infomative chases of the season

Why would they send him there when he was terrible over 3 miles after Cheltenham 2008.

Back over 2 1/2 last season he thrived, can’t see them changing that.

Albertas may possibly run but only because the prize money for place is worth having but his early season target would have to be the Peterborough Chase again.

He finished a fence behind Kauto last year and if the ground is anything worse than just on the soft side of good he’s beaten before they get to the post.

Last year punters were looking for something that might beat him or get placed and ebded up with burned finger. This I’m already struggling to find something that can even give him a race, so unless something comes to light your much better grabbing the 9/4 than backing something at silly ods that might struggle into aplace.

If Sizing Europe gets the 2m6f at Punchestown next month I’d expect him to go to Kempton which would suit his racing style. If he does, Kauto will have to be right at the top of his game to win again

Kauto Star wouldn’t have to run to within 10lbs of his best to account for Sizing Europe over 3m around Kempton.

You probably can, CS, though I believe they originally belonged to you – I can see no other reason why they’d have ‘Profound Beauty’ etched in to them. Would you like them back to watch The Real Article through?

There is absolutely nothing to suggest that Kauto Star has deteriorated since last December and there is even less to suggest that Sizing Europe is capable of improving two stone for the step up in trip.

If he stays 3m at all I’ll be amazed, let alone getting within a whiff of Kauto Star’s backside around Kempton.

My mare probably needs the right going (not too firm, not too soft) as much as your Frenchman needs the right track,(not Haydock, not Cheltenham, not Aintree) can we agree to wait until they both have their optimum conditions and see who blinks first….loser gets the specs?

To say Kauto doesn’t operate well around Cheltenham is debatable CS. I’d say that his 2nd Gold Cup win was arguably his best ever performance.

A little tounge in cheek bearing in mind the mood of the recent posts but you’d hardly want to have the house on him not belting at least one fence, would you?

I’ve always feared for the horse, and now he must be approaching the time when he goes beyond the point of equilibrium I fear for him even more. One day, that extra something that he has now won’t help him find a leg when he needs it. It happened to Dessie, and he was a much safer jumper than Kauto.

My thoughts too….I’ve never been a fan, probably iritated by all the hype comparing him to Arkle, I doubt if he was any better than Freddie and nowhere nearly as good as Flyingbolt nor Mill House….the early 60s, with those four great chasers, was the golden age of NH racing without any question!!!!
I’ve always preferred Denman but Kauto Star has been a great ambassador for racing and it would be tragic if anything bad happened to him in a race, I though it had last year.
RP analysis on his 2010 Gold Cup run…..

"Tracking the leaders, he got in a bit close to the second fence and then walked through the eighth, doing well to stay upright but dropping back from second to fifth. He remained well in touch and produced some good leaps, but there were signs too that he was not going that well for Ruby Walsh. He was in fifth place and being niggled at when he got the fourth-last all wrongand took a bad fall, from which he was lucky to get up. Although happily none the worse, this may have left mental scars and it remains to be seen if he can recapture his former best next season."

I always find it bizarre how people always say ‘not as good as Arkle etc’ pretty much everything has improved with regard to performance since the 60’s and 50 years worth of breeding on it goes without saying the TB as a breed has improved. Cars in the 60’s seemed pretty damn fast but no where near as good as those today! get my point? I know these 60’s horses had lofty ratings but thats all relative. Racing was no where near as competitive as it is now and no one can argue with that. Obviously Arkle was exceptional and miles better than what was around then, but not now

I’ve read some nonsense in my time but compariing Freddie to Kauto Star would even have Reg Tweedie coming out of his grave for a laugh.

Outside of his National exploits Freddie was a decent chaser but he wouldn’t be in the first 50 best of allk time. I remember Freddie struggling to beat Vultrix in a race at Sandown and finishing 15 lengths 2nd to Arkle getting over 30lbs in the Hennessy. Lovely horse but that was as good as he was over park fences.

The sad thing about writing ahorse like Kauto Star off is sooner or later you will be right but right now there’s no apparent reason why Kauto Star should not be challenging for Cheltenham honours again.

Sure he could do exactly the same again and blunder his way out of it but he’s just as likley to win doing handstands.

Thing about Kauto is he has nothing else to prove and not mmany would have him right up there with Arkle and Flyingbolt a definitely ahead of Mill House.

Would take some imagination for even Arkle to beat Kauto Star 30 lengths at levels round Kempton but he could have done that to Mill House giving him a stone.
