“Am I the only one with a form-book with this race in it?
Has everyone else had the page ripped out?”

    No and no. ;o)

With Allaho out now I think Frodon at double figure prices would have to come into consideration – considering he got dragged into an early suicidal pace battle last year he did well to still finish 4th and he said they would sit in if anything wanted to go fast early this time round.

Nicholls also mentioned he had a little breathing issue after that which would explain his final two lacklustre runs but I thought he was very good at Wincanton lumping that big weight round and if it came down to an all out battle he wouldn’t be found wanting.

Although it was nice to see him back, I was not overly impressed with Envoi Allen making heavy weather of beating the very exposed Kemboy so the jury is still out on him for me and with BMG he is far too short when he still has it to prove at Championship level (where he has been found out previously) and the Charlie Hall form is nothing to write home about.

Frodon was bang ready for last weekend , Ireland being the plan but the badgers ale being a worthy replacement , id be amazed if he could beat BMG , if you look at last season after winning in Ireland he got beat in the KG then absolutely hammered at Leapardstown and Cheltenham , I reckon he,’ll tie BMG in beautifully until the 2nd last

“There’s nothing wrong with Allaho, he’s being withdrawn simply to annoy Chezza,” an unnamed stable spokesperson, wearing a particularly big hat, claimed late last night.

Re Frodon, the only horse this century to regain his crown was a Gold Cup winner. Kauto Star.

    “to regain his crown”

There is no “crown” – you mean “win the race again having been beaten in it after the first victory in it.”

There, fixed it for you, along with every other modern media hack who writes this sort of stuff nowadays.

The likes of Richard Hoiles and the current 21st century Racing Post Editor would probably love you, Mike – grumpy 20th century Chezza has an alternative view!

Frodon doesn’t know that and many times in his career he has defied the naysayers that doubted he was up to the task.

Yes it will be difficult to achieve it but it isn’t like Kauto Star was the only one to do it as the likes of Halloween, Mandarin, Wayward Lad, Desert Orchid and See More Business also managed the feat and for me his chances are greatly enhanced by Allaho missing the race.

Finally had a couple of bets.

Royal Pagaille was the problem horse for me, but question marks over him just now, with him missing The Betfair, and heading to Newbury instead.

Taking Frodon a straightforward decision in the end, and also added Noble Yeats, who’s season I don’t think will necessarily be focussed on Aintree. We’ve not got to the bottom of this trainer, and I think he might just send him here.

    Frodon 16’s
    Noble Yeats 44’s

L’Homme Presse at 7-1 my main bet, and even though I can see him not going, Ahoy Senor 33-1
