I cant see this one winning today. They never come back and I think this horse will be firmly crossed off anyones gold cup plans after todays race.
Any opinions before the off?
February 16, 2008 at 13:55 #143816Really do hope he wins.
Would be great to see him back.
February 16, 2008 at 13:57 #143817Im laying him, but it will be one of thiose rare bets when you dont mind paying out when an ex champ turns back the years. Cant see it happening today though.
February 16, 2008 at 13:58 #143819I’m with you Zoso.
I certainly wouldn’t be a layer, nor do I fancy anything else in the race, but I just have a bad feeling and don’t think he will win. I hope he does though.

February 16, 2008 at 14:01 #143820I really don’t fancy Kicking King and napped Hi Cloy on Bob Rolf…..3 horse form last time makes me suspicous
February 16, 2008 at 14:06 #143821Our worst fears confirmed I’m araid. He travelled well enough but just doesn’t possess the class he once did in my opinion.
People really did over react to that three horse form in my opinon – including myself.

February 16, 2008 at 14:10 #143822I will forgive any horse its bounce run form, however even using that as an excuse I dont think he is the horse he once was.
February 16, 2008 at 14:10 #143823On that you would retire him unless you believe the bounce does exist…….not going to be an Aldaniti fairy tale I’m afraid
February 16, 2008 at 14:13 #143825Yes, KK was very disappointing, unfortunately it looks like he may have "gone".
The winner looks a tough customer, dam is a half-sister to Moorcroft Boy.
February 16, 2008 at 14:54 #143841Broke my heart watching KK earlier . I’ve never bought into the ‘bounce’ factor so based on that performance he’s not going to be competitive in the GC. There is always hope but I think it could be time for Kicking King to retire.
February 16, 2008 at 19:09 #143926I’d expect him to run much better next time, how many horses do we see with similar injuries run really well after a long break and then poorly on its second run? I don’t think he’s done with yet
February 16, 2008 at 19:33 #143939I’d like a bit of evens he’s retired in the next few days.
February 16, 2008 at 19:40 #143944Has anyone heard any quotes from Barry Geraghty? He looked to give up on the horse very quickly after putting him under pressure, I’d be interested to hear why. If it was what I fear I’d like to queue my money up behind Carvills!

Kicking King was 13-lengths back in third but afterwards his trainer Tom Taaffe remained upbeat, "They have gone a real good gallop on tacky ground and he has jumped as good as he ever has on that ground.
"Obviously I would be much happier if he won but if he is fine after this it is onwards to the Gold Cup. Barry (Geraghty) said he would come on for the run and I said I was training him for one day and I still am."

unfortunately he will have to improve 20pounds on that performance
February 16, 2008 at 20:01 #143959Kauto or no Kauto, hes surely wasting his time training him "for the one race" now
February 16, 2008 at 20:14 #143961For me, there were big doubts about the form of his reappearance.
Newmill ran a poor race afterwards, so too did Nickname (beaten before stamina came in to play). A slowly run race and possibly greatly flattered by that run.
Never seemed to be travelling today though.
