    Eskendereya out of Derby

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eskendereya will not run in the 136th Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs, trainer Todd Pletcher said Sunday morning.

    Thanks for the echo.

    Absolutely gutted

Very disappointing that the Favorite misses the race.

:( :( He could have been Triple Crown Material

The way Pletcher was speaking yesterday was like America had just lost a TC winner :(

Comments about how he could hold his weight and come back a fortnight after a race and how he could stay the Belmont distance gave me that idea.

It’s a shame….and now Rule has been taken out too. Pletcher only has 5 more.

How ironic it’d be if Devil May Care or Super Saver won now for Pletcher or (even more ironically) if Jackson Bend won after trailing Eskendereya all year!

Eskendereya is to be sold ASAP

Obviously being a Son of Giants Causeway Coolmore will be in their pitching but having already spent 10 Million Dollars(OZ) on a son of Choisir it would take a good wack to get this animal especially since Shiekh Mo will be in pitching.

At Least 15 Million Dollars at least to get buy this beast….could look value IMO as he does look a outstanding DIRT Animal

Derby post-position draw and morning line was today-bad news for Lookin at Lucky (he has had traffic issues in the past) and Sidney’s Candy.

    1 Lookin At Lucky 3/1
    2 Ice Box 10/1
    3 Noble’s Promise 12/1
    4 Super Saver 15/1
    5 Line of David 30/1
    6 Stately Victor 30/1
    7 American Lion 30/1
    8 Dean’s Kitten 50/1
9 Make Music for Me 50/1
    10 Paddy O’Prado 20/1
    11 Devil May Care 10/1
    12 Conveyance 12/1
    13 Jackson Bend 15/1
    14 Mission Impazible 20/1
    15 Discreetly Mine 30/1
    16 Awesome Act 10/1
    17 Dublin 12/1
    18 Backtalk 50/1
    19 Homeboykris 50/1
    20 Sidney’s Candy 5/1

My pick after watching the works is Awesome Act. He breezed 4 furlongs in 48:20 yesterday, seems to really like Churchill and has the best 10f pedigree of them all.

Okay people, heavy rain this morning.

I asked this question before, I think even putting it in bold, but I don’t think I got any replies:-

Other than last year, which other Derbies were run on an off-track?

Haven’t done any work on this race, and I want to see if I can identify a contender just on pedigree.

    Might just back the horses 50/1 + . . .

    Past Performances, requires Acrobat;

    From this page, which also includes a video analysis;

The off-track adds another x-factor to this already wide-open race. I still like Looking At Lucky as the most probable winner but will probably box him with two or three longshots, like Ice Box, Stately Victor and American Lion, depending on the post-time odds. Can’t really toss the filly Devil May Care either as she has the style for the distance and won her first race by 4 3/4 lengths on a sloppy track. I know this is a shotgun approach so I won’t be crowing if one of the horses on my list wins. Good Luck.

Thanks Thorobase. I wasn’t expecting someone to go that far back!

    Race is 11.24pm BST.
Will be on betfair/timeform radio, if you ever listen to that. Terry Norman. :P

Pedigree Query is very slow at the moment. I might have to have an early night, and try to pick the winner tomorrow. :?

There’s been plenty more "heavy" or "slow" or "good" tracks, the early Churchill course didn’t drain well. The track has been sealed so that it wicks out water, so it will be about as fast as usual, not as bad as last year.

Undercard races (not the derby itself) are streamed online at http://espn.go.com/broadband/espn360/ In between races remember to watch the Virginia Gold Cup races at http://www.nationalsteeplechase.com/exp … videoid=12, the Gold Cup is race #3 (post time should be around 3:30pm EST) and the field is spectacular.

Normally reliable unless it’s a big Champions League game and the server is overloaded.

Rooting for Informed Decision, Jonathan Sheppard and Augustin Stables in the Humana Distaff, those are prominent steeplechase connections.Sheppard is equally adept at training flat horses and jumpers, and Informed Decision has been out of the money only once in her life. She’s won 11 of 15 lifetime.
