Being nosy, admittedly, but who is Ken Pitterson employed by, if anyone? He’s always on William Hill Racing Radio and has also become a regular contributor on ITV Racing. I don’t have access to ATR or RTV, so no idea if he features on there too. Just wondered if he gets paid for these quick pre-race interviews, or is he basically a race-goer that pays for his way by successful punting?
April 22, 2022 at 16:21 #1595212I don’t have an answer Cymro, but have wondered the same thing. Do they just grab him for a quick chat, or is he getting paid? Hopefully the latter.
April 22, 2022 at 16:29 #1595214Never seen him on RTV or SSR.
April 22, 2022 at 18:03 #1595239Never seen him on RTV and only occasionally on ITV.
As I don’t watch the channel much couldn’t say with any certainty, just wonder if they seize the opportunity if and when he turns up at a meeting they are covering?
but he does approach things from a different angle ie … the appearance of the horses.
good luck to allApril 22, 2022 at 18:26 #1595246He’s at every meeting I attend in the south. Popular guy who chats to anyone but clearly does the legwork. I like him a lot. His observations are good and he’s articulate with it

April 23, 2022 at 14:17 #1595382Yes, going racing is Ken’s job. Don’t know who exactly he works for, suspect quite a few people / companies pay for his paddock knowledge. When I used to go racing thought I knew conformation to a fair level until listening to Ken talking to his racing pals.
Value Is EverythingApril 23, 2022 at 15:59 #1595405He’s been on WHill Racing Radio for as long as I can remember. I always listen for his paddock picks in the big handicaps and put some pennies on them and I’ve had some big priced winners/placed horses over the years thanks to him. He either keeps very extensive notes or has a good memory because he’ll comment on how the horse has improved for its last run or has grown/not grown since the previous season. Very much part of the WHill team and the banter is great fun.
April 23, 2022 at 19:50 #1595435He was writing for the Racing Post Weekender when I was shifting there nearly a decade ago. He contributed seriously good, in-depth analysis pieces from several meetings each week.
Definitely knows one end of a horse from the other, to put it mildly. Very good operator and it’s been great to see him getting some TV air time.April 24, 2022 at 19:28 #1595517Probably sends live information to some of the betting exchange players as to well being, paddock demeanor and how they’ve gone to post. I know the chap who’s doing it on the northern circuit for several exchange players.
April 24, 2022 at 20:52 #1595528At least one of Ken’s racing pals he stands with paddock-side works for the Racing Post, Broadsword. Someone (not sure who) once told me Ken used to do a day or two’s work for Racing UK. If true this must have been before 2007.
Value Is EverythingApril 24, 2022 at 23:04 #1595546If memory serves he was first in front of the cameras with a fleeting, possibly unplanned, RUK appearance in the late 1990’s/ early noughties, at a midweek fixture chatting paddockside for a minute or two to Gerald Delamere, whom I believe he learnt his trade from.
April 24, 2022 at 23:09 #1595548I’m sure I saw Ken at Taunton many years ago. I walked as far away as I could away from the main crowd to take some photos of the horse going to the start and a man was in a similar spot and on the blower talking about the horses from the paddock and also how they were going to the start.
I’m sure it was Ken but I didn’t know him back then so couldn’t be sure.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 25, 2022 at 14:39 #1595582Thanks all for the replies, very interesting – I’m just relieved it wasn’t a stupid question! Seriously though, Ken sounds quite unique, having carved himself a niche reputation. Just good to see him getting some more air time and long may that continue.
