My daughter rides at horse show where there is often background music playing over the tannoy and it doesn’t bother the horses.
However at a recent show there was a small live ensemble playing classic musical right next to the ring and even though it was pretty quiet most of the ponies were playing up. Some owners put cotton wool etc in their ears to try and keep them calm.

I also think the idea of the commentator singing is a spiffing one.
That would combine the popular X Factor format with the thrill of racing.
Are we officially a "Think-tank" now? We’ve surely earned it?
Zip
They’ll have to get Tom Durkin over from New York to call ’em home. Remember "Doraymelasolatee -doooooooooooooooooooh!"

Perhaps not, his post race comment was – "It was stupid."

July 9, 2009 at 01:26 #238626A pity the Wildenstein’s didn’t have a runner. A blast of that when the old ear plugs are pulled out would have had quite an effect!
July 9, 2009 at 02:20 #238632I liked it and hope Haydock get the Halle from Manchester to do one for a 1m2f race.
Just a case of getting the distance right for the time of the music that is to be used.
A brave move by Amy Starkey do get this thing into operation but i think it worked and was a new idea and hopefully some of the classical music buffs who popped down will go to a few more race meetings.
