November 1, 2006 at 11:47 #29755AW Banded racing at Southwell.
<br>14 runner fields. 5 horses that can win.
Sounds like a reasonable betting medium to me. Of course, if the intricacies of the sand are too tricky for you, best to swear a little bit and make out that it is the root of all evil.
November 1, 2006 at 12:04 #29756The trouble with rational debate is that you never know when you may be arguing with someone from Mensa.
November 1, 2006 at 12:13 #29757If you think that digging up a perfectly good track like Kempton and replacing it by sand in order to put on dismal racing during the winter months for the benefit of the bookies is fine
Nonsense
The existing flat racing at kempton has been transferred (and was nothing special anyway), so nothing has been lost, unless you have a deep seated prejudice agsint the surface
November 1, 2006 at 12:38 #29758Nottingham today. Southwell tomorrow (and yesterday).
It’s a Day at the Races. Horses, fresh air, activity. Life. Lucky or what?
I never miss an opportunity to go; high grade, low grade. All the same to me. The Races are as cheap or as expensive as you want them to be and it beats sitting in front of the PC emoting over exchange price differentials.
And really, I’d still attend if they ran handicaps for Mules, or 200 metre Quarterhorse races.
I went to the start yesterday at the Sandpit. Watched them load up, watched them get ready to go. Never done that before. The other week I had a wonderful day at a low grade Wolver meeting as a guest of an owner and trainer and had a magnificent, memorable day.
It’s ALL tops as far as I can see.
If it’s the perceived difficulty of Banded racing which is a problem, then spend the afternoon playing Blackjack, Morticia. With ten grand and a a good memory, the percentages are much better than any horse race. But then you already know that.
(Like Poker, though, imho, it’s just hours of boredom punctuated by minutes of extreme panic. )
Is your point that you would eliminate horse racing for horses rated, say, under 50?
Back later.

November 1, 2006 at 20:53 #29759Not sure banded races are bookies fodder as somebody suggested – after all they are not handicaps and many runners you can dismiss straight away – it also allows many trainers to get a win out of baddish horses which would be unlikely in grade 6 upwards and saves them being put on the scrap heap !!!
November 3, 2006 at 16:00 #29760And of course after February another feast of polytrack delights  Between the adverts of course.;)
November 3, 2006 at 18:53 #29761thing  is as Clive so accurately says , you dont have to watch it !!!  and you are  spot on , we dont , and guess what hardly anyone does
Will racing be better off  ??

November 3, 2006 at 18:58 #29762Probably not Ricky!
hope all is well with you…im still at the place you know!
November 3, 2006 at 19:59 #29763Look at the excitement we get with Tajjree though. She’s had some runs on the all weather and they’ve been equally as exciting to anyone connected to the horse as anything! I’m sure it’s the same for any owner/trainer seeing their horse run (yes I know I’m not an owner but I do still FEEL connected)
November 3, 2006 at 20:19 #29764Sorry to hear about your affliction
November 3, 2006 at 20:33 #29765…and a total inability to express a strong dislike for something without resorting to crude language!
November 3, 2006 at 22:52 #29766Gilly ,I agree its nice for owners to see a slow horse get a run and have a fun day out , and why not!!
Its just im thinking so many people have left racing behind because of the low quality /dross being offered on a regular basis and thats not so good
Hey Clive good for you and all the best
cheers

November 4, 2006 at 09:31 #29767Just had a look at todays racing, took about 2 mins,so exciting. I’d spend about 90 mins on an all weather card. I don’t like NH i get sleepy between laps, but some love it, great for them i have a choice not to watch, i don’t have to slag it off.
Mortisha if you have had some kind of nasty experience with sand i suggest you stick to muddy fields or behind fences
