Haven’t look at the race at all yet, and won’t until the decs come through, but Haashed is entered, and I’m looking forward to seeing him progress more than any other horse I’ve seen on AW during the winter.

Can’t wait for this race, is anyone going tomorow night? David and Bulwark Haashed looks a big threat indeed, are you going to have a bet?
March 18, 2009 at 01:00 #217094Will wait and see what the prices are tomorrow, however Markyg and Sohcahtoa look like definite e/ws and may include a few small f/cs with Close Alliance and Haashed.
Looks an exciting race, probably not up to kentucky derby trial usual standards but eciting nevertheless.
March 18, 2009 at 01:23 #217098I’m with you Bulwark, Haashed and Close Alliance are my two. Haashed looks a decent improver from the footage ive seen and has a nice draw in stall 12. He’s definitely my prefered runner out of the two Johnson runners. I cant have Mastery at all.
Markyg loves this course and is very much capable of improvement however the draw has put him in stall 2 and that could be his downfall.
Of the others though I really like the look of Shampagne. This horse disappointed on turf but is 3 from 3 on the all weather over a number of trips and looks like 9f will suit perfectly. Beat a hot-pot of Cumanis and Talking Hands (another runner here) with a lot in hand last time and could go well at the forecast 20/1. The draw puts him in stall 6 and thats not too bad with Close Alliance and Mafaaz either side.
March 18, 2009 at 03:13 #217131I still feel Mafaaz comes into the race with the best form, and with scope for improvement. There are a few other unexposed horses lining up as well though, who will also improve. It’s a bit of a fluke that the two M.Johnston horses have both been drawn near the rail, they have got the best of the draw. You could see the horses from stalls 12, 13 & 14 all racing prominently.
As much as I like him, I wouldn’t want to be backing Mafaaz at around 11/4 – 3/1 from stall 7 though. I’m happy to walk away from that, & wait for an less risky oppourtunity.
I will be there Mr.Wilson.

The race looks a complete mess to me from a betting perspective, but I’d find it hard to imagine that Richard Hills makes an early return to the British racing scene, only to climb on the wrong Hamdan horse?

Ryan Moore is back to ride in this and the Winter Derby and he’s on Sochoatoa and he couldve got the leg up on a few of these
March 18, 2009 at 19:16 #217204I think Mafaaz might win … but I’ve plonked £3 of spare change on Shampagne instead

I thnk you may be reading too much into the significance of the jockey booking. Hard to think that Hills would have been anywhere near Middleham gallops to sit on Haashed, Spencer rode that horse when it made it’s debut. Hills rode Mafaaz on his final 2-y-o outing and the fact that they are putting blinkers on suggests he may be a bit tricky so would want continuity. Add in that we are talking about unexposed, improving 3-y-os and I’d be inclined to take jockey bookings and cap colours with a pinch of salt.
March 18, 2009 at 23:12 #217236Happy with 33-1 on Markyg and 33-1 Sohcahtoah for an e/w. Close Alliance at 6s isnt bad either.
March 18, 2009 at 23:13 #217237I’d be happy enough taking the Johnston horse to be on my side in the race, Haashed looked pretty good in winning his maiden.
It seems a good race, probably no Quality Road or Old Fashioned etc. in here all the same

I hear what you’re saying DJ, but is any of that enough to warrant running Mafaaz in this particular race, and R Hills returning early specifically to ride it? (He has one other ride, for an outside owner tonight, and nothing for the Winter Derby meeting on Saturday).

Good price you got there!
I was on Sochotoa and Haasheed in the end. Thought Sochotoa was going to steal it!
