Running tomorow at Down Royal and 1.43 on Betfair
Any thoughts? is Kauto finished? is 1.43 value?
November 1, 2008 at 10:12 #187345Is Kauto finished? Would you like to bet on it?

I’m of the opinion that Kauto wasn’t quite at his best last season after his foot injury. OK it wasn’t a major injury but I think it just took the edge off him. I expect him to silence any critics this season in style.
Is 1.3 value? Maybe but its way too short for me to get involved value or no value.
November 1, 2008 at 11:13 #187348I’m not sure he is finished, but I’m with Ian. He didn’t look quite the same horse after Ascot and his jumping wasn’t fluent at Cheltenham or Aintree. There are definitely questions to be answered…
As for today, The Listener is a very good chaser on soft ground in small fields and Kauto will have a job beating him.

Totally agree with TDK on this.
Though Kauto’s stable are making all the right noises, nothing he has achieved at home would have given him the same test he had in the Aintree ‘Bowl’, and it’s hard to forget how poorly he ran then.
That, and the advantage The Listener will gain from today’s ground, makes KS less of a certainty than the betting suggests, imo.November 1, 2008 at 13:36 #1873532s on too too short
Odds to back
5/4 KS
9/4 TLNovember 1, 2008 at 14:22 #187359Hello,
The odds are ridiculous considering the going will be heavy…
Is K/Star up to a slog??

Is K/Star up to a slog??[/quotegood morning, mates!!i hope, you had great halloween party,i had one definitely.but back to the subject:kauto star is a phantastic horse,no question, but IMO,the listener has a big chance(maybe his only this season..),to get a revenge on his old rival.he has his ground, nick mitchell wil have him surely spot on,so theres every chance for him to score today.as he is a big fav of mine,i will back him at small stakes.

November 1, 2008 at 16:23 #187380All I hope for is Kauto Star comes home safe sound and isn’t dragging his head along the ground like he was after the Gold Cup.
I am still fuming at PN for puting the horse out again at Aintree but Kauto is one tough cookie adn hopefully no harm done.
I would advise all of you to do three things. 1. Empty your bank account and ake 11/10 for the Betfair Chase. 2. Empty your mother’s bank acount and take the 6/4 for the King George. 3. Say a prayer and hope he wins in a hack canter today

On all known form (including Aintree), The Listener would not get within an asses roar, and it’s only a combination of the price and the going that makes Kauto a swerve today – talk that he somehow has ‘something to prove’ is nonsense, imo.

Grassy
He’s belted quite a few in his time but never, when fully fit, to the effect that he was beaten by a horse rated 12lbs inferior, and whom he had thrashed in similar circumstances only 3 races earlier.
November 1, 2008 at 17:02 #187394After the way Kauto finished last season I wouldn’t be backing him today given it’s his first run and the ground concern. I hope he gets home safe and sound. That being said, he should destroy the Listener & Co.
November 1, 2008 at 17:19 #187398It has to be a watching race today – Kauto’s price is far too short and I think the going is potentially against him.
The trouble is there is nothing else in the field about which a decent argument for winning could be made.
If I was forced to have a bet I would take a chance with Jessie Harrington’s Knight Legend – yes on form he has plenty to find but that assumes the others will run to their best – the ground should not be a problem and a recent run will help.
November 1, 2008 at 17:27 #187400If his price is far too short and the ground is potentially against him, why a watching race today? If they were my views, I’d be backing one of his rivals or laying him.
November 1, 2008 at 17:41 #187403I hope he wins, just to shut up the people who want him to loose

Come on Kauto!!

Because there are too many imponderables and question marks to back or lay anything – anyway there is more to racing than betting.

I haven’t said there isn’t. You were the one that brought his price into the argument as a reason not to bet in the race.
November 1, 2008 at 19:04 #187417OK to go back to your original question – I am not saying Kauto Star will not win – hence no lay bet – I only ever lay a horse when I know it cannot win.
Kauto Star has fewer question marks than the others but too many question marks to back at his current price.
