Grassy/graysons, there’s a big American steeplechase on ATR tonight from Saratoga at 9.47.

You both probably know, but just in case. :D

Nice shout, Max – I hadn’t spotted that.

Xavier Aixpuru is down for a ride in the race – that’s one crossed-off already.

Oh, good-oh! That’ll mug a few more minutes after Mock The Week has finished. Speaking of ex-pats, as well as Xavier SurnameIsAHugeScrabbleScore I presume that’s the same Will Dowling on board another runner that used to ride for Len Lungo?

Speaking of ex-pats, as well as Xavier SurnameIsAHugeScrabbleScore…

 You do tickle me, Grays.

I’m fairly sure I stumbled across him on Facebook t’other day. No idea how or why though…

New game: Seven Degrees of Xavier Aixpuru?

At which point do you get to Kevin Bacon?

Aaaaaaaand topic…I started off with a love of the Flat, following Henry Cecil from the mid-eighties during the Cauthen years, with only the occasional big jumps race impinging on my consciousness. Now the situation is reversed, so while I still enjoy the major Flat races, it’s the jumps that really get me going – in fact I’ve just booked a weekend in Cheltenham for the Open meeting.

Is that a statement or a command?

ClintM’s season ticket to Towcester remains pristine, virginal and unused, I presume. 8)

Interesting stuff, that Saratoga race, if as much for the preamble as the race itself. Yes, it’s true, Mr Anchorman, they really don’t go at it hammer and tongs for the whole two-miles-and-one-eighth trip, these are horses that know a few different speeds at which to travel! Bit of a man-meets-world moment, I thought.

I suspect British jumps fans will snort a bit at a Graded chase being run over a course so sharp that only four fences could be crammed onto each circuit and which made Cartmel or Laleston look like Newbury or Doncaster… but hey! Haydock’s jumps track is going to look and ride much the same once they have finished wrecking it.

…And after all the sniping earlier, it was inevitable that Xavier Aizpuru was going to ride the winner, wasn’t it! Clearly my goading stung him into action. That’s a pint you owe me, mush, but none of that rice-brewed Bud filth you get over there, y’hear!
