Fair enough Fist, the Spangly one isn"t 13/8fav for nothing and i certainly give him more chance than i did last years "hotpot" Scenic Blast, but i see this fella as having one gear! The favourite won like the class horse he is but he is never impressive to the eye! Fleetings whoooosh just wasn"t there today.i felt as though she ran a bit flat unfortunately!
July 9, 2010 at 22:49 #305742Starspangledbanner looks to be staying in Ireland for the time being cause he was meant to be in quarantine by tonight, so I guess they will be taking him to Haydock.
Equiano will be retired after his Nunthorpe run unless they are tempted with Longchamp.
July 9, 2010 at 22:56 #305745Congratulations to all those who backed Starspangledbanner, probably the winner on merit; but should have been disqualified in my opinion.
Totally destroyed Prime Defender’s chance and used him to interfere with other runners chances. Made certain he got the lead at a meeting that favoured pace to a great degree. Impossible to say if this was a "deliberate" manoever or not. But leaving places unchanged encourages foul play in future.
6 days for the jockey is insuficient deterent in a valuable race like this.
There’s a thread in Horse Racing about the same subject, might be best to keep it there.
Value Is EverythingJuly 10, 2010 at 10:20 #305797Equiano will be retired after his Nunthorpe run unless they are tempted with Longchamp.
Shame to see him retire since he seems to be at his best now.
July 10, 2010 at 11:33 #305810Nicconi was supposed to be going into quarantine and on the same flight as Starspangledbanner. I wonder whether Coolmore will still be paying part of the airfare?
July 10, 2010 at 16:20 #305845How could ten sprinters be so slow that one drawn 11 could beat them all to the rail? Were they asleep? Is Murtagh so fast that the stewards have to step in to protect the locals? In the Kentucky Derby,no sprint, but if drawn 11 you can forget about making it to the rail.
July 10, 2010 at 16:25 #305846I remember the stewards suspended Fallon who was drawn on the outside for going to the rail too soon.AND HE WENT TO THE OUTSIDE RAIL.Irish jockeys must just learn the rules.

I was talking to my Aussie pal by email before the race. He’s a keen follower of Aussie racing so I told him I was backing Starspangledbanner and asked if he knew the horse.
He replied he knew the horse well and he was decent but no champion.
That "A" speaks volumes about the Coolmore set up or "b" tells me our horses are rubbish……I’ll go with "A"
July 11, 2010 at 12:19 #305947I don’t believe that the European horses are rubbish so perhaps Coolmore know more about horses than they are given credit for. After all Magnier and Coolmore have been very successful. Most racing and breeding people seem to value an Ascot Group One as a certificate of quality.
