With Regional being a non-runner because of the ground, I’ve gone with Kinross who will like any rain that falls
July 13, 2024 at 14:17 #1701767He must be a fabulous horse to own Kinross and its great to see in this day of shipping the good ones off to stud him still going although that’s obviously easier to do when hes a gelding. Still he comes out year on year and runs to a really high standard, stays sound etc. A credit to connections. Despite that hes only won once over 6F in his career at the end of 2022. I’d be a bit disappointed for the division if he won to be honest.
July 13, 2024 at 15:50 #1701779Art Power , did me a massive favour on Champions day and his turn can’t be far away
July 13, 2024 at 16:24 #1701782I’m not convinced 6f is ideal but River Tiber is quick, has a long stride and should have a pace to aim at
Looks much more relaxed than he did at Royal Ascot
had a dabBlackbeard to conquer the World
July 13, 2024 at 16:31 #1701784Haven’t bet in this but I’d love to see Vandeek bounce back to form.
July 13, 2024 at 16:38 #1701785Been on Mill Stream for nearly all his runs, not today
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
July 13, 2024 at 16:40 #1701786Same here RTB. Frustrating horse.
July 13, 2024 at 16:43 #1701787Never even considered him today Rob.

July 13, 2024 at 16:44 #1701788I’m not making excuses for the 3yos because they might just not be that good but it did look a bit of a draw/track position race. It was a good close race but it just sums the sprinters up in that they’ll all beat each other on different days and there’s no outstanding one in there. Breeding related? Too many promising sprinters sent off to stud without really confirming their ability on the track. What i mean by that is they have group form on the cv but its group form like today. I’ve always thought only the very best should be at stud.
July 13, 2024 at 17:05 #1701790If there are good excuses then make them.
Inisherin probably hasn’t recovered from Ascot where in hindsight he had a very hard race. Doing by far the best of the prominent runners but still holding on. Vandeek’s trainer is in better form now, but the vibes from the stable about Vandeek were all wrong.
Vandeek and Inisherin still best of those stand side. So possible track position played a part. Maybe they’ve raced too much stand side over the last few days. Another who raced towards the far side Art Power 4th.
Mill Stream finished 1 1/4 lengths behind Swingalong in 3rd and 2nd in the Jubilee. This time Mill Stream a neck in front has improved. Swingalong’s Jubilee was a PB at the time, so might have improved a lb or two again.
However, I certainly wouldn’t dismiss the three year olds.
If they meet again I’d still make Inisherin and Vandeek favourite over the first two here.
Jasour would be interesting if going for the Nunthorpe.Value Is EverythingJuly 13, 2024 at 17:15 #1701791I’m not sure Ginge to be honest on the excuses, it was a possible excuse but far from certain they were disadvantaged or if they were by how much. They’ve run ok still and it wasn’t a strong commonwealth cup to judge them on as a group. Will be interesting to hear what connections make of it. I’m sure most will be back again at Haydock along with Regional if the ground is fast enough for him.
July 13, 2024 at 17:48 #1701793Agree with Tin Man. It looks like another case of sprinters taking it in turns.
It is why I think English Oak’s connections should have run him instead of saving him for Goodwood. The gap between handicaps and Group 1 in sprints is not very much. Why not have a go?
July 13, 2024 at 21:05 #1701801I agree the Commonwealth Cup field wasn’t a good one overall, TTM. But the pace of the Ascot race means Inisherin is better than the actual distances back to the placed horses… The form he showed today is nothing like what he achieved at Ascot or Haydock anyway.
Vandeek could easily improve on today’s performance too.The ability of top sprinters tend to be a little less than milers, CAS. Because if a horse is of equal ability at 6f and a mile, those Group 1 winners at a mile rarely drop to 6f nowadays. Would’ve been great to see Rosallion today. Oh for the days of Chief Singer! There are some that don’t stay a mile who will be real top class sprinters. eg Habibti, Battaash etc.
The gap between Group 1 and handicap isn’t as small as viewing the races might appear though. With a length at sprint distances being worth more lbs than over further. eg At 5f a length is often worth 4 lbs. But with a length being worth more in lbs it also means luck in running / where they race – can all have a greater say in who wins.Value Is EverythingJuly 14, 2024 at 03:25 #1701812Great to see Peter Harris get a win , spent a morning at his Pendley Farm in 90s , was a real good set up and his syndicate set up was very good .
July 14, 2024 at 08:49 #1701820Good to see Jane C-H winning another Group 1. Often seems to tilt at windmills so her strike isn’t of many top trainers. But imo her horses run to form more often than most. I rate her as “in form” more often than the vast majority of trainers. Hope this leads to her getting more well bred horses.
Value Is EverythingJuly 14, 2024 at 09:23 #1701823Agree about Jane Chapple Hyam, Ginger. Although I am kicking myself at not backing Mill Stream (I did at Royal Ascot) I am pleased to see her win such a prestigious Group 1. She is a very good trainer.
I mentioned English Oak because to my mind he had the 7 furlong handicap at Royal Ascot won a long way from home. He is clearly not short of pace and 6 furlongs must be worth a try.
Aside from the Prix De La Foret, where is there a 7 furlong Group 1?
July 14, 2024 at 15:35 #1701846Was hoping to see a decent showing from Vandeek.
I Think he’s the one to beat now at Haydock. -
