Was the commonwealth cup a good race?

3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th all rated between 104-107 and beaten 3 lengths or less

With noble style, sakheer and LBB not looking like they’ve trained on this doesn’t look like the best 3yo crop

Shaquille looks a crap price to me

Certainly not saying he can’t win, it’s not a strong race of course he can, but I’m very dubious about the strength of that race at this point

he’s much too short to consider backing imo

Kinross will take some beating if the ground is gd to soft or worse

The 2nd horse he beat is a good horse who beat Bradsell, another 3 year old, who won the King Stand. These 3 year olds look ok to me. One can pick holes in 6 year old Kinross’s sole sprint race win in his 21 starts if one wishes to. 3 and 4 year olds have dominated this race in recent years. 9 of the last 10, the only other winner being a 5 year old.
My shortlist was the favoured age group. Shaquille, LBB, Azure Blue. I sided with Shaquille as he seems to go on most ground, unbeaten over 6f, won a group 1 last time despite fluffing the start, and LBB has reportedly had an interrupted preparation.

I think a lot might depend on the ground.

Kinross needs cut and while Shaquille has won on Soft the form that makes him favourite for this was on a quicker surface.

Bradsell didn’t run remotely close to his best at haydock

12mm put on the track on Tuesday more to be added today

Seems a tad excessive from the clerk

    Good for kinross

But can’t see why doing anything other than watering to maintain good to firm was needed

Cold case is the interesting 3yo at the prices imo

Probably to maintain good ground rather than good to firm. Not that there is anything wrong with good to firm as you say.

In fact it’s already happened and he is fav on betfair atm

    40mph winds possible tomorrow

Getting some cover from that will be the winning and losing of this race

It is a huge variable that will give the horses that escape the worst of it a massive advantage

I’ve went with Vadream at 20-1 ew. I agree though with the positivity around Kinross

Ground could be the key. Lbb probably needs good to firm to show best form probably the same as the fav. I can see them being in the frame but will go for a horse used to drying soft ground. Azure blue for me.

    Vadream at 20s, for me.

Today’s ITV televised racing has plenty of good betting opportunities – plenty to get stuck into.

Enjoy the day folks, stay disciplined, dont ‘chase’ because it could easily be one of those type of betting days.

Most of all, the very best of luck to all :good:

Azure Blue has been in sparkling form for Michael Dods.
He won the Duke Of York last time out with a bit in
hand. The handicapper didn’t miss him by putting him
up 10lbs So instead of going down the handicap route,
Dods thinks he’s up to this jump in class. It’s a race
full of decent sorts, it should be a cracker.

    Azure Blue 4/1 Bet365
