By coming onto my posts and “defending” Timeform’s rating, you are, effectively, criticising my opinion and my logical process. I assume you either cannot see that fact, or, you are just being rude.
OMG,
I am giving my opinion and that disagrees with your opinion, so if you want to see a difference of opinion as “criticising”, up to you. That’s not “being rude”, opinions are what this forum is all about. :lol:Value Is EverythingAugust 20, 2015 at 12:08 #1176830Anyway, back to the racing. What a fantastic chip off the old block Arabian Queen is. Her dam Barshiba was one of my favourites.
I once asked David Elsworth “How do you get so many ultra genuine front runners”? Desert Orchid, Floyd, Barnbrook Again, Persian Punch, Barshiba etc.
He put his arms out, shook his head a little like this and replied “Because I’m brilliant”.
Value Is EverythingAugust 20, 2015 at 15:43 #1177135Gosden just interviewed on RUK and states that GH will now go for Irish Champion Stakes (providing its not too soft) as they don’t want him having a big break going into the Arc.
He said in hindsight they should of sat right in behind the pacemaker as he only went a steady pace – (of the pacemaker) he said that if you had told him that a horse that had retired from racing over a year ago would have finished 5th beaten 5L in Juddmonte I’d think you would be smoking something strange in your pipe. Rab Havlin his jockey told him that if he had kicked on earlier in the straight he might have nicked 3rd place!

I made that point last night over on the Arabian Queen thread in the Horse Racing section. I never heard Gosden’s comment, it was just my own observation. As I said there, Dick Doughtywylie, was also conceding 8lbs to Golden Horn and I shudder to think what would have happened if they had run off level weights.
I am surprised they are thinking about the Arc and they should just have run without the pacemaker yesterday. He didn’t need one in the Eclipse, so why now? The way the race panned out in the Eclipse it was just as well Golden Horn was where he was, because he only got on top of The Grey Gatsby late on. Had he been sitting held up off the pace it would have been touch and go that day I reckon.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 20, 2015 at 17:43 #1177263Surprisingly, their plans for the Arc seem to be taking stronger shape rather than them backing off as most would have expected. Perhaps the loss of his unbeaten tag has eased the pressure.
I’d love to see him go there (aside from the fact I’ve backed him). I want to find out for sure if my initial impression that he’ll act with cut stands up. The secret to him now seems to be getting him settled early. How much work they can do on that in the time that remains I don’t know. But I would not be surprised to see Buick back on board in Paris. Neither of Buick’s winning rides on GH feature the word ‘keen’ in comments. He’s been keen twice now with Frankie, and it might have been three had he not led at Sandown.
On a separate note, I see Elsworth describing yesterday’s winner as the best filly in Europe (I’m assuming he’s classing Treve as a mare in line with the formal age constraints). He’s obviously a mercurial man throwing such a strop with the press and not coming into the winner’s enclosure because ‘none of you were interested in me before the race’. Had he been so stuck on the principle of that he should have turned up and, when they put a mic in front of him, told them then. Also, the RP claim he was indeed asked for a pre-race quote and he told the reporter to ‘go away’.

“Mercurial Man” is a lovely euphemism Joe. Back in my late Mother’s day, she would have have simply called him “A bit of a tit”

August 20, 2015 at 22:13 #1177519Very boorish behaviour from David Elsworth.
August 21, 2015 at 09:50 #1178121Peacock has progressed this season and is possibly better than moderate. The only two horses to finish ahead of him thus far are Golden Horn the Derby/Eclispe winner and that wasnt by much despite Peacock meeting a troubled passage and Time Test 4th in the International both top rated horses in Europe at the time. I see the well touted Richard Pankhurst winner at Royal Ascot at 2 year old has once again been pulled out and Peacock beat him at 2 yo.
