A horse I really like runs in The French Derby today.
Ektihaam
may not have had his form franked yesterday but I still think he is a Group 1 horse and I expect him to be there or thereabouts today. Obviously that blasted O’Brien could scupper everything as he could win with a cart horse at the moment but 7-1 is good each way value imo so I’ll go in.
I have noticed that money has come for
Feelthedifference
at Nottingham. It might just be the form of the Cecil stable but I have had a little bit on at 9-2 and doubled it up with his maiden in the next race. You never know – lightning does sometimes strike twice!

June 3, 2012 at 14:31 #406646That was a joke race. Hanagan had a nightmare.

Well the maiden was unlucky Joni. Surely there will be a race for her in the future. What happened with Feelthedifference? I see it was a non runner?
Have you heard what plans Sir Henry has for Noble Mission? Beaten a head giving 5lbs to the Derby 4th last time out looks decent now!
June 3, 2012 at 21:29 #406746Yes MB – Chigun would have won if he had run straight but TQ had a horrible job keeping him off the winner who had the rail. The other one was taken out because of the ground.
Cecil remains in great form and TQ is riding out of his skin. Good signs with RA around the corner.
Speaking of which….that is where Nobel Mission is heading – for the King Edward. As the Derby field whittled down to 9 and the 1st and 3rd from NB’s last race stood their ground I kept thinking he should be in the race. But looking at the form, the best he could have managed would have been 4th and I rather think HRAC ranks a winner at RA almost as high as a Classic these days! He loves that meeting and I am sure thought that he would rather run NB to try and win that race than run him to place at Epsom. He nearly always gets it right and he has again I think.
I read today that they are now working him without a hood and ear plugs (NB I mean not Henry) so it will be interesting to see if he races without both next time. As usual though it looks like it will be a very good race with probably as much strength in depth as the Derby but without the impressive winner.
Just to whet the appetite….I am eagerly awaiting the seasonal reappearance of a Cecil horse this week who I will be putting the mortgage on……more to follow…….

Thanks Joni! A couple of weeks ago I was really worried the way some of Henry’s horses were running but in the last 7-10 days just about everyone of his horses has been involved in the finish.
Thought STIPULTE ran a big race last week and put his classic trial run well behind him
Looking forward to this week….. and RA
June 4, 2012 at 14:58 #406855I like the look of Ektihaam also Joni. I thought he looked like an improving sort in the Dante and it’s a pity we didn’t learn any more about him yesterday. He reminds me a lot of a horse that ran in the same colours a few years ago called Mawatheeq. He was a late maturing sort, who graduated from a handicap to a Group 3 to a a second place finish in the Champion Stakes as 4yo.
June 4, 2012 at 22:44 #406917Spot on THM – Mawaatheq had a very similar profile and only injury prevented him from going to the top I thought. Lets hope this one has a bit more luck!

June 7, 2012 at 08:34 #407175An interesting couple of days for the Cecil stable with 6 runners all of whom will be worth watching (for me anyway!)
Today he runs three and the one I like is

. Her form this year has been disappointing but there have been excuses. She didnt handle the soft at Newbury and was too keen over further lto. She ran well at Kempton on her debut last year and her half sister won round Lingfield earlier on this season. I see she has opened up at 7-2 which probably reflects the stable form more than anything but I think she is a certainty to be at least placed and will back her ew BOG. Her main danger could be Gallipot who is well thought of.
Henry also runs two very well bred newcomers in Natural Bloom and Dr Yes. I will only be watching these two but Dr Yes especially has been showing up well and as long as he handles the soft this son of Light Shift should be there or thereabouts.
I will be at Newmarket tomorrow to watch a couple of others but will report on them in the morning.

June 7, 2012 at 13:36 #407203Joni: Thats a very interesting looking maiden. The one I like is Marco Botti’s newcomer
There is one getting backed from my Epsom combination to follow; that of Mr Cumani/Kieron Fallon, opened up 16s+ and now down to less than 6s in places! I for one prefer Cumani’s to have had a run as they tend to improve drastically but money talks as they sayGood luck with Sir Enerys
June 7, 2012 at 14:29 #407206Joni: Slightly happier now as Raving Monsun is in to 33s and 28s and shortening slightly on oddschecker. Hopefully will shorten up even more and maybe sneak a place
June 7, 2012 at 15:27 #407211Joni: Nice result mate, the 2nd is the one to take out of the race, race very green but the money spoke as they say
June 7, 2012 at 15:37 #407213Couldnt agree more GDC. Very promising the second. Tom Queally has never ridden better than he is at the moment.

June 7, 2012 at 16:40 #407229Just taken 9-4
Thomas Chippendale
tomorrow at Newmarket. Very highly regarded, well handicapped and sure to improve for promising seasonal reappearance. Should be a class above rivals.

today and I hope to see her in better races later this season. Also thought
Dr Yes
ran a race full of promise and I predict big things for him. Has the looks to go with the pedigree and was only beaten by experienced horses in what looked a good maiden.
Adding up all the tips I have put up on here so far this year you would be £126.80 up if you had bet a pound on all of them. That includes the 2 golf tournaments without which it would be £94.80. 46 bets 15 winners. A good start.
Tomorrow I really like Thomas Chippendale and have already put him up at 9-4 but I want to see how much rain they have had before backing anything else. The same is true at Goodwood where there is one horse I can’t wait to see. But more on that tomorrow……

June 7, 2012 at 21:03 #407283Do you only back Henry’s horses Joni? He’s been in stunning form recently, Searing Heat is due to run again soon.

No Rich but his stable is definitely my area of expertise – if I have one! I’ve followed the stable since I was 5 (over 35 years!) and read pretty much all his gallops reports. I would say I am pretty au fait when it comes to his horses. 21 out of the 46 bets have been on his nags and I’m 86 points up on them.
I don’t back every horse he runs as you will have seen over the last few days when luckily enough I have only actually backed his winners!
I said at the start of the thread that when Cecil is in form I tend to do well and you are absolutely right that he is in stunning form at the moment. I think it is always nice to be confident that a horse is going to run up to the best of its ability and you can certainly be that way at the moment about Henry’s.
I am going to Newmarket tomorrow and Searing Heat is due to run in the 5.40. I would wait to see how much it rains though as this one is a top of the ground horse and I doubt he would even run if it turned soft. Thomas Chippendale will win though.

June 8, 2012 at 09:30 #407323So there’s a horse running today that I have been looking forward to see run for several weeks.
I’m afraid it is a Cecil horse again –
All Time
This one is from the same family as Passage of Time, Timepiece and Father Time and she always got a mention as a two and three year old. When she ran last year however she was terribly backward and ran no sort of race at all on very fast ground.
The fact that they have persisted with her is interesting but what is even more interesting is what she does on the gallops. She works with Jet Away who you will know won that very good race at Goodwood the other day earning an RPR of 116. All Time leaves Jet Away for dead on the gallops.
Now you have to take one or two things on trust. She has no actual form whatsoever. She has to carry a hefty 4 year olds weight. She is running on very soft ground. But the opposition look moderate. All her family have acted on soft and she is very useful based on her homework. I was expecting to see her at about 7-4 but have just taken 9-4. She should really win.
I’ll double up on my two 9-4’s but I won’t be backing Searing Heat as the ground has turned to Good to Soft at Newmarket and I don’t think he’ll like it.
