Well rarely have I looked forward to a days racing as much as I am looking forward to tomorrow.
D Day for Frankel. The last test. Can he add "Versatility" to all the other attributes he has in abundance?
But before we get to that race we have some mouth watering clashes to enjoy.
I am no fan of sprint handicaps but I really hope Tax Free can do it for Gord and his dad. He looks to have a decent chance to my amateur eyes at least.
The second race promises to be a cracker with 5 incredibly exciting colts taking each other on. I will wait to see them in the paddock.
I have already said I am backing
Thomas Chippendale
and have taken the 9-2. I have also done a reverse forecast with Noble Mission as it would be far too upsetting to see him win without having something on him. I have kept the stakes small as it looks a wide open race and any one of the 6 could win it. Main Sequence has the best form in the book but I just think TC has a bit of star quality about him and I hope he wins well.
The final race looks at the mercy of the Stoute horse
Sir John Hawkwood
who is the type of horse I love – a group horse in a handicap. I have backed him to win at 7-2.
So what about the biggy? Can he do it? Of course he can. To whet my appetite I have just watched some of his replays from my video catalogue (yes sad I know). He is unbeatable guys. I expect his superiority to be exaggerated still further over the longer trip and I think we will see a regal procession. There are not quite the stand out bets that Coral gave us in the QA so I have stuck with my mates at Bet365 who have never refused me a bet and backed him
to win by more than 8 lengths
at 7-4.
I have no worries about the pacemakers as Nathaniel is not there to take over when they start to tire. I have no worries about the track as it is a lovely long straight which will suit this most incredible galloper. I have no worries about the ground as he has the most beautiful action which will see him float over the quick surface. And I have no worries about the opposition as he is in a different league to all of them. Saying all that I will be nervous as hell in the lead up to the race as this is without doubt the most important race of his season if not his whole career. It is indeed a career defining race. Is he just the greatest miler of all time or the greatest horse? We will find out tomorrow but have no fear…..I already know the answer.

August 21, 2012 at 20:44 #410421BTW – Sir Henry is still 33-1 for the Trainers Championship. He might well win a lot of prize money tomorrow so those odds could change drastically.

Cheers Pal and I hope your 4 hour drive to York is worth it.If I hadn’t driven all over the bloody shop this past week I’d have met you there but I’ll enjoy watching it on TV.The A64 is a nightmare on racedays so leave early! Just to remind you of what we said after the Lockinge, take a look at how long it took Tom to pull your horse up? another 2 furlongs! I’ve gone off the idea of Laying him now!
Forget the Stoute horse as a Group winner, beating ‘Man of Action’ in receipt of a stone is poor form and any further rain will not help!August 21, 2012 at 21:02 #410425Thanks for the advice – with 25,000 expected will leave at 9!

August 22, 2012 at 21:18 #410566What a day!
There have been some memorable ones in the past three years but this one I think topped the lot. What a fantastic Yorkshire crowd. The atmosphere was amazing.
It was almost the perfect day.
I got there just in time (5 hour drive!!!) to stick a little bit on Tax Free and watch him scorch home for Gord and his dad. Wonderful!
I liked Dungunnol in the paddock and had a little bit to win on him. Travelled beautifully and looks a serious horse. Did he win as impressively as he looked like winning? Not sure but definitely a horse to keep on the right side of in what looked a quality race.
The only downer? The Voltigeur was run at a crawl and my worst fears were realised as TC never looked like winning and was disappointing. A great ride from WB but would you be sure the result would be the same next time? One thing is for sure – Camelot will hardly be quaking in his boots.
Then it was on to the main course and my blood froze when I saw poor old Henry. I pray he recovers.
As usual his horse didn’t let him, me or anyone down. He means so much to me this horse and to see him do it as easily as that was wonderful. I can’t find the words to describe the brilliance of him but I don’t really need to do I?
I was a length out with my prediction but I don’t care one single iota. One of the amazing things about Frankel is his reliability. How many horses have posted so many incredible performances? It is great because it means we can make all sorts of confident but outlandish predictions safe in the knowledge that he won’t make us look foolish. Fancy him being odds on to win by more than 5 lengths against a horse like SNA over a brand new trip?!!!
I feel very priveliged to be around at the same time as him. As soon as I got home I watched the replay with my little boy who is now as nuts about him as me even though he is not yet three. We cheered him on as though it was live. He was soooo excited! We will keep those videos for all time.
I could gush all night but I’ll leave it there for now. Can’t wait for his next race. Will it be the Arc? I very much doubt it and actually I’d rather it be in England in the Champion when I will take the whole family to see the best there has ever been.

August 23, 2012 at 12:57 #410662Another great days racing today and the one I can’t wait to see again is
Newfangled
. This one made a huge impression on me when I saw her at Newmarket and she was Frankel-esque at Ascot. I make no apologies for making her my only bet of the day at Evens but have also backed her at 8’s for next years Guineas.

August 23, 2012 at 13:42 #410665Gutted. Poor horse. Poor JG. I feel sure she would have been a major player in the Classics.

August 24, 2012 at 12:02 #4107932 bets for me today.
I am staying loyal to
Stipulate
in the 3.05 (win 7-2) – He was also unlucky last time out and had no sort of run as predicted by EF. I think this in between trip will suit him perfectly and he can take advantage of the weight for age against what is essentially a lot of nearly horses.
If the rain holds off I am all over
Bated Breath
in the Nunthorpe (win 5-1). They have had to be so patient with this one because of all the weather but good ground should be fine and I think he is the best horse in the race.

August 24, 2012 at 16:10 #410831Can’t tip a winner at the moment but damn and blast that infernal Dubai Prince!!! Such a good horse on his day but I only ever back him when he can’t be ar5ed!!!!

August 24, 2012 at 18:11 #410843Keep plugging on Joni, the winners will come!
Do you fancy Chacha tomorrow? She’d be a strong fancy over 7f but 8f is right on her limit.

Exactly Pants.
There’s also a question mark about the ground if it turns soft. And whether Chachamaidee acts on soft or not, will she stay a mile on soft?I can’t see her running myself…
Although none of the 6 runners are certain to act on soft.Value Is EverythingAugust 24, 2012 at 18:43 #410850Spot on Ginge. Chacha has an excellent record at Goodwood but she only just gets a mile and will not run if they get too much rain. Lets see what happens overnight. I would be hopeful on good ground as Stipulate did not boost the form of TM and Aljawhatsit today.

August 24, 2012 at 19:26 #410858Plenty rain forecast, Trumpet Major has form on good to soft, 4th in The Guineas and his Craven Stakes win. It’s one to hold fire on until tomorrow.
August 24, 2012 at 20:59 #410871I couldn’t resist taking a bit of 5/2 Aljamawotsit, but only half my stake as yet.
Strangely, I am also thinking about backing something that is unlikely to stay a truly run mile or act on the ground.
Question:
Who’s going to make the running?
If Van Ellis jumps out and immediately slams the brakes on, is anyone going to take him on? Got form at 6f on firm ground, he’s speedy. If allowed to set a pedestrian pace and kick from the front 3 out… Is anything else going to be able to catch him? Would any other horse have sprinting pace?Value Is EverythingAugust 25, 2012 at 13:04 #410973So it looks like Chacha is going to run despite the Good to Soft but, unlike a couple of weeks ago when I was all over her, there are a few doubts for me today.
The trip – she only just gets the mile and has a much better record over 7. Goodwood is an easy mile but the ground will make it harder.
The ground – as above. She has never RUN on anything softer than good let alone win on it.
The opposition – Aljawhatsit has the scope to be a decent animal.
Stipulate did not advertise the form yesterday however and what a pity dear old Zarkava is no longer with us as he got it absolutely right when he said "this years 3 year olds are atrocious" – only problem was he was a year too early!!

So will she win? I hope so. Will I back her? Yes. Am I as confident as last time? No.

August 25, 2012 at 13:11 #410974I’ve took the plunge on Chacha, there are a few negatives but hopefully she’ll be classy enough to overcome them
