Thanks for the lovely words guys! So am vegging out at home today and wasn’t intending to bet but there are a couple who I think will win today at short odds. It is the same combination that served me well at the weekend, Stoute and Palmer. Sir Michael runs Ascription in the 3.00 at Chelmsford. She has a Coronation Stakes entry so is clearly well thought of and she wan well in two very good maidens last year. This is much easier and she should win. In the Racing Post Guide To The Flat, Hugo Palmer wrote that We Are Ninety is the best handicapped horse in his yard. She won well first time out and only got given a mark of 70. Hugo thinks she could be listed class so she should go well here. The danger would be Cryptic who flew home last time but he is the first runner for Luca Cumani who often starts them off slowly. We won’t win fortunes backing them but I am confident they will win.

I have just been catching up on Saturday’s racing and I was really impressed with Du Moto and Home Of The Brave. I think they both have bright futures. Three more that went in my notebook were Ulysses, a son of Light Shift who went down narrowly in the maiden and, in the same race Yangtze, who is now qualified for handicaps and is going to win a few. He wasn’t given a hard race and will surely step up in trip now. Another Stoute horse who caught my eye was Convey who ran very awkwardly in behind HOTB but looks an impressive sort who probably just needs blinkers. But the big one to take out of Saturday’s racing was once again Wings of Desire. He absolutely bolted up at Wolverhampton having been so green throughout the race. The further the went the better he looked and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if this one goes down the Leger route for Johnny G. He isn’t even quoted yet but he is definitely a smart horse.

    £80 win Ascription 13-8 – 3.00 Chelmsford loser
£80 win We Are Ninety 11-8 – 4.00 Chelmsford winner
    £40 win double

Well that was super impressive from We Are Ninety. Clearly a filly for the future and quite possibly better than a handicapper. Hugo has his horses in great form and should win the 5.30 with Copper Knight who shaped with promise at Newmarket but my worry would be this Hannon 2 year old who has been backed off the boards so probably just watch.

I remembered your post Joni so
Had £3 on We Are Ninety when I popped up to read the Racing Post this afternoon.
I notice Aiden is keen to take in a trial with The Gurkha, so hopefully all system go with that one. The form has question marks but he looks an improving sort.

I am a huge fan of Arod and he makes his debut tomorrow at Ascot. He is a class horse this and I am sure he will be winning a Group 1 this year. He runs in this listed race without a penalty and I am confident he will take all the beating.

    £200 win Arod – 9-4 – 4.30 Ascot loser

I’ve gone in on two more tomorrow at Ascot on what should be a very good day’s racing which I’m going to miss unfortunately!!

Flying Officer has won first time out every single season and he is a confident selection in the Sagaro Stakes. He is still lightly raced for a 6 year old but he just gets better and better and Paddy Power have given me a tempting 10-3. Hugo Palmer seems to have found the key to Gifted Master (namely chopping his nuts off) and he was very impressive first time out at Newmarket. Obviously he has Aiden’s horse to beat but he may take some catching from the front. Again his price is attractive as I am sure he will finish first or second.

    £100ew Flying Officer – 10-3 – 3.20 Ascot placed
    £100ew Gifted Master – 3-1 – 3.55 Ascot winner
£25 treble the above two and Arod
    £25 doubles

Should be a great day tomorrow – unfortunately I have a birthday lunch to go to so will be missing it yet again!!

At this stage I have had bets in just two races. In the first I have heard good reports about a horse of William Jarvis called Demonstration who improved throughout last season and is fancied to become a good handicapper this year. He is available at 20’s and might just run into a place.

In the big one it is all about the favourite. If he is as good as he looked last year and as good as they say he is then he will hose up. I wasn’t actually going to have a bet in this race as I was sure he would win until the rain came and made it good to soft. If he is going to get beat then it might just be on this type of ground first time out. So I have gone for two horses who have shown their liking for cut and who will stay all day. Peter Chapple Hyam knows how to train a classic winner and he has always really liked Marcel. I love the look of this big strong horse and I think he will go well. He is a Group 1 winner and a nice price. Galileo Gold was always going to make a better 3 year old and he also has very good form in the book. He looked awesome on the racecourse gallop the other day and he has his ground.

    £25ew Demonstration – 20-1 – Newmarket 2.30 loser
    £35ew Marcel – 12-1 – 2,000 Guineas loser
    £35ew Galileo Gold – 12-1 – 2,000 Guineas winner 14-1
    £10ew Double (2 bets)

A couple more bets with the ground drying out. Jungle Cat is a very consistent sprinter who did very well at Meydan this winter and was a bit unlucky not to win last time out as he raced on the wrong side. I don’t think this race is as strong and I expect him to go close if he has recovered from his winter exertions. Bateel is a lovely, strong unbeaten filly for David Simcock who has his horses in good form. I like unbeaten horses! She should run a good race. I’ve been reading Hugo Palmer’s website this morning and it has tempted me to have a little interest in all of his today. The stable are going well and they are all good prices.

    £35ew Jungle Cat – 8-1 – Newmarket 2.30 placed
    £50 win Bateel – 10-3 – Goodwood 2.15 lost
    £15ew Twitch – 25-1 – Goodwood 2.15 placed
    £15ew Strong Steps – 16-1 Newmarket 2.00 lost
    £25ew Zodiakos – 10-1 – Newmarket 5.30 placed
    £15ew Afandem – 10-1 – Doncaster 6.45 winner
    50p ew Lucky 31 all of HP’s

A quite brilliant day. Only just watched it – had a Likely Lads day trying to avoid hearing any news about the Guineas. It’s harder in 2016 than it was in the 70’s!!!! But managed it and just watched the superb Galileo Gold absolutely waltz home to give the soon to be legend that is Hugo Palmer the first of many, many British classics. What a trainer this guy is going to be!!! I wouldn’t even be surprised if he goes close to winning the trainers title THIS year as he has some serious horses to go to war with and this one could even be a Derby winner. My HP lucky 31 came close to a huge payout and it was only Strong Steps being narrowly denied 3rd that kept it from being a 4-figure pay out. Delighted for the guy as he seems so down to earth and is also a superb communicator. Did anyone see his interview on Racing UK? So knowledgeable, so modest, so open and fluent in delivery – an interviewers dream. ALL his horses ran well today and he had a lovely 2 year old winner at Donny. But GG was the obvious highlight and the world surely is his oyster after today.

I had 50p on Hugo for Trainers title at 125/1 Joni on 15th April.
Wish I had put a pound on now. Whatever happens he wont be a million miles away.

Be lucky to get 20’s now.
Gosden is without Golden Horn this year and Shalaa out injured and Jack Hobbs flopping today the 8/11 on him wouldn’t tempt me

Agreed mate. Not sure about AOB either. I do wish he would give his Guineas horses a prep run. It all seems very hit and miss – they either win or flop don’t they? Heaven knows how Minding and Ballydoyle will go tomorrow.

I’m on Lumiere at 20’s so hoping she jumps out and the tail wind keeps her in front.
I thought O’Brien was ok at 2’s but not sure he has the strength in-depth as in years gone by. Hannon will be sweeping up what he can but no superstars in the yard and it’s Palmer who seems to have the midas touch at the moment.
Win or flop for O’Brien is better than my record in the race of flop after flop. I did have a few quid on Frankel the time he won but that was on the day at long odds on. He ran Ballydoyle quite hard live on c4 the other week by the looks of things so probably uses the gallops as a bit of a prep although you cant beat the real thing.

:rose: Well done Joni from Galileo Gold :rose:

What a great trainer Hugo Palmer is turning out to be.

Good luck with your Sunday bets Nathan & Joni hope the ground drys out a bit more and Ballydoyle runs but I’m also on Lumiere but only around 5’s, would love to see her win it.

SWISS RANGE, winner of the Maiden fillies race on the first day of the Craven Meeting, is running tomorrow and hoping she will retrieve some of my losses, didn’t get a winner today but tomorrow the bookies will be on the run…LOL :rose: Jac
