How do you choose which races to look at?
I got a tip Ginge – friend of the owner.

October 7, 2016 at 21:28 #1266073So it is all doom and gloom at the moment but onwards and upwards and tomorrow is another day. I am posting now as tomorrow morning is all kids and clubs! I think Amablis is better than her mark. If you look at her maiden form, it is very good (runner up to Rhododendron and Dubyah) so a mark of 85 should be manageable. The Anvil showed much better form last time and this is easier. Seven Heavens has plenty to find on form but there are question marks about all her rivals including the fav who I am convinced will be better over further. I think the race will be nicely set up for Seven Heavens as it is bound to be quick which should help him to settle. I think the quick pace might account for Blue Point and South Seas has to prove he goes on the ground. I think it is significant that Johnny G comes here rather than go for something easier and I think SH will go close. I am convinced he is the horse who (so far) is most like his father. In the Zetland I have heard a couple of nice reports about Redicean for PCH and he is a massive price. I also think Cunco will finish in the first three running over a proper trip. Finally I think Johannes Vermeer should be too classy for his rivals despite a lay off.
£25ew Amablis – 12-1 – 2.20 Newmarket loser
£75ew The Anvil – 3-1 – 2.55 Newmarket placed
£50ew Seven Heavens – 15-2 – 3.30 Newmarket loser
£25ew Cunco – 9-1 – 4.45 Newmarket placed
£25ew Redician – 50-1 – 4.45 Newmarket loser
£50ew Johannes Vermeer – 4-1 – 5.20 Newmarket placed

Ah, thought it was unusual.
Unusual for me today too Joni. Think I may be over-confident. Got bets in six races!
We’re going to sink or swim together on Seven Heavens (today and in May). I’ve done win only and regretting it so done a place saver. Regretting doing Blue Point too today. Do Godolphin try one race too many? Asking a lot for Middle Park and Dewhurst, drifting badly. Possily Sheikh Mo’s decision rather than trainer. Am also on the maiden The Anvil, for both today and the Derby! This time of year is always tricky, trainer form even more important.
Good luck today Joni, your record tells us the gloom is sure to clear some time soon.Value Is EverythingOctober 9, 2016 at 17:32 #1266418Joni any views on CORONET my oaks horse very taking winner she was been going well in my thread as well had some decent winners last few weeks
And tell that Gord to pop in my thread not seen him in it no idea why
October 15, 2016 at 09:19 #1267144Hi guys – crazy week at work so sorry for not replying Darren. I thin time will show that Coronet won a very good race last week. Your Oaks bet looks shrew in my opinion. Also thanks to Ginge for your words of encouragement. It has been a very up and down season but I am hoping to go out on a high in the last couple of weeks. Obviously today is massive and I have bets in all the races. Order of St George is obviously going to take the world of beating after his run in the Arc but that was only two weeks ago and he may just be vulnerable today. I have always liked Simple Verse of Raif Beckett’s – a classy, classic winning mare who looks like she will appreciate this trip. The sprint is a fantastic race and I would love to see Shalaa win it but I just don’t think he will. He is still on the comeback trail and these are serious sprinters he is up against. Of his rivals I like Twilight Son, handled by a very shrew trainer and who ran really well in this last year. Seventh Heaven is my banker but I have also had a little tickle on Architecture who doesnt know how to run a bad race and is a big price. I think Ribchester has done nothing but improve all year and I take him to beat Minding in the QEII. Steve Caution has been pointing us at JC Rouget all year with very good reason. He has had an amazing season and this was always the target for Almanzour. He has Found to beat but I don’t like horses running in races as an afterthought and the Arc must have taken something out of her. I have had a little tickle on Jack Hobbs at a big price as apparently his work has shown him back to his best. It would be some training performance though wouldn’t it?! Finally I have gone for both of Godsen’s in the last. GM Hopkins is well fancied and Remarkable was a bit unlucky last time and could go close if staying. Fingers crossed!!
£25ew Simple Verse – 5-1 – 1.25 Ascot placed
£25ew Twilight Son – 6-1 – 2.00 Ascot loser
£200 win Seventh Heaven – 7-4 – Fillies and Mares loser
£25ew Architecture – 22-1 – F & M loser
£200 win Ribchester – 11-4 – QEII loser
£200 win Almanzour – 13-8 – Champions winner
£25ew Jack Hobbs – 14-1 – Champions placed
£25ew GM Hopkins – 7-1 Ascot 4.25 loser
£25ew Remarkable – 12-1 Ascot 4.25 placed

October 18, 2016 at 21:36 #1267746So we are running out of time to get back into profit. So we’ll give it a proper go with a couple of Frankel’s tomorrow. Alfawaris ran a race full of promise first time out and Cracksman apparently works very nicely and is being backed.
£150 win Alfawaris – 7-4 – 4.15 Newmarket loser
£75ew Cracksman – 9-1 – 4.15 Newmarket winner"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
October 19, 2016 at 17:13 #1267813£150.63
So after the losing Ryan Moore bet and the losing Frankel bet (winners in a season) we have been saved by the highly promising Cracksman! He has brought me back in to profit…….just!!! We’ll see how we go but I might call it a day at that!!! A profit is a profit and it’s been a hell of a difficult season. I need a rest!!!

October 19, 2016 at 18:34 #1267820Glad to see you’re in the black again Joni, gambling is all about peaks and troughs, everything you touched turned to gold a few months back! I myself am going through a bad spell, apart a good ante post win on Heartbreak City in the Ebor I haven’t really had much else to cheer about. I did go to Ffos Las at the weekend and had a decent winner with Garde La Victoire, but the atrocious rain did temper enthusiasm a bit! I must admit I do prefer the jumps than the level, so the summer for me is really just ticking over waiting for the Autumn – that said I will have an interest in the Breeders Cup in a few weeks – do you have any early fancies for that? I do really like Tepin in the Mile but not sure about anything else yet.
If you do call a day with this thread then it’s been a throughly enjoyable series to follow – I do wish a posted on here a bit more but work commitments and other things do get in the way rather, I always like “comparing notes” with fellow lovers of the game. Best of luck…
October 19, 2016 at 18:44 #1267822Well done Joni and Cracksman I managed 8/1 last night and wish I could have been there to see them both but had family commitments today, meeting Jessica from school as Dave away until Saturday. I will make sure I get there on this day next year as it’s just 2yo races and the results today will be worth note-booking and following into next season.
I’m already getting sad at the fact that there are only 2 more days left at Newmarket at the end of this month but you’re so right it has been a difficult season. I’m wondering if we have both taken our eyes off the ball a bit because of our interest in all the Frankel runners as it is these little lads and lasses that have helped raise our profits when the coffers were almost empty but I have not given the time this year to many of the other 2yo’s that have run because of the Frankel factor.
I’ve made a promise to myself to keep following the Frankel progeny next year but not in the same way as I have this season, this is definitely a one off for me personally because I just wanted to know if his progeny would make a profit in their first season and, in that respect, they have exceeded expectations. However, there are still so many behind closed stable doors that we have yet to see and probably not now until they are 3yo’s which is sad.
I’m putting my hopes on Eminent for the Classics next year and hope he will improve into a decent 2000 Guineas or even Derby type through the season, he certainly looked as though he had lots of growing to do to fill his frame and I think he will turn out to be even better than his sole Maiden win but only time will tell if he trains on.
Really enjoyed this season, meeting up with you for a few races at Newmarket and seeing Fair Eva even though it was a disappointing run. We all need to reflect now on what we have seen this season and what will progress into 2017.
Looking forward to The Racing Post Trophy on Saturday where Frankuus is my idea of the winner along with my each way bet The Anvil (who I know you like)…enjoy your rest Joni and take time to gather your thoughts and come back all guns blazing into the new season as you say a profit is a profit and the horses have been all over the place this year it’s been like pick and mix the most unlikely horses have come up trumps and the bookies have been quids in….Roll on the Craven Meeting, I can’t wait to throw a bit more of my money their way Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 19, 2016 at 20:56 #1267832Thank you Jac and Joliff for your contributions and support today and throughout the year. It is knowing that you guys are behind me that makes all the ups and downs worthwhile. Joliff – I have no thoughts on the Breeders Cup just yet but I’ll definitely be watching and looking for horses trained specifically for the meeting rather than after thoughts. Will keep you posted of course! Jac – I wish I could say I’ll be the same as you next year but I know I will still be obsessed with the Frankel progeny. I predicted they will rule the world didn’t I?!! They are not doing that yet but I still think they might….though they’ll have to beat their Grandad’s kiddies in order to do it! There are a whole host of promising maiden winners and Frankel’s last test is to see if these can make the step up and improve into Group 1 horses. My one disappointment this year is that as yet none of them have REALLY improved from one race to the next. I have no doubt that many WILL but it just hasn’t quite happened yet. I am consoled by the fact that many “in the know” have been shocked by how well his 2 year olds have done as they weren’t expecting them to be particularly precocious. I am planning to go to Newbury on Friday for my last day of live racing as I see there are 2 more Frankel’s running including the well touted UAE King. I’ll be back with a full review of the year later in the month and perhaps one or two more bets if I see anything. The viruses and weather have made it the trickiest year I can remember but there have been loads of highs amongst the lows. I am already looking forward to next year……..

October 20, 2016 at 13:43 #1267880Joni what your views on Cracksman in terms of next year same question of Shutter Speed as well. And with many maiden winners he had what Gosden horses you like to see next year in terms of his 3yo colts and fillies
Also Joni will you do a jumps horses thread to
October 21, 2016 at 09:29 #1267935Hi Darren. I was really impressed with Cracksman as I am sure he is not a miler. The further they went, the better he looked and I think it is good form as well – the other Frankel ran really well first time out and had almost certainly improved. JG said he will aim him at that conditions race over 10f at Newbury next April and I guess if he wins that we could be seeing him in a Derby trial. It is very early days and of course he has a long way to go, but so far so good.
You are right that JG has a whole host of nice maiden winners for next year including Shutter Speed. I was with some jockeys the other day and they were telling me about the virus they had at Newmarket this year. It was really bad apparently and some stabled had it, got rid of it and then got it again! Varian, Haggas, Stoute and Gosden were all badly affected and so that is why we are now seeing lots of god horses appearing so late in the season. Unfortunately they all have to play catch up now and you can see that the Coolmore battalion is way ahead of the game so I wouldn’t be rushing to back anything ante post but would rather wait till the Spring.
Apparently Cracksman in still growing and so he could be a very nice horse next Spring. I think he will one of many Frankel’s competing at Group level next year.
As for the jumps – I am going to do the TRF ten to follow competition but I won’t be doing a thread. Over the years I have fallen out of love with the jumps – I actually hate seeing horses fall and it takes away the enjoyment for me. Plus I need to have a breather and see my family again!!! Hope you have a great season though and thanks for contributing to this thread.

October 21, 2016 at 11:54 #1267957Well we can’t just let it peter out when we have 3 Frankel’s running today can we?!!! Also, I have heard very good things about Commander so lets have a little bit of fun.
£80 win UAE King – 9-4 – 1.20 Newbury
£100 win Commander – 5-2 – 2.25 Newbury
£80 win Mirage Dancer – 5-2 – 3.10 Doncaster
£40 win treble"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
October 22, 2016 at 09:06 #1268113Broke even yesterday so still just head above water. I have a couple of fancies for today.
At Newbury I keep hearing good things about Musawaat and I also like JG’s horse in that race Eaton Square. It is this time of year when it really pays to follow Godolphin so I have gone for both of theirs in the next, both Frontiersman and Memorial Day. I have been a big fan of Imperial Aviator all year and he gets back to the scene of his best run this season. I am certain he will go close. Also, he is no price, but UAE Prince is a group horse in a handicap.
£25ew Musawaat – 8-1 – 1.45 Newbury
£25ew Eaton Square – 11-2 – 1.45 Newbury
£25ew Memorial Day – 5-1 – 2.20 Newbury
£25ew Frontiersman – 13-2 – 2.20 Newbury
£50ew Imperial Aviator – 9-2 – 2.50 Newbury
£100 win UAE Prince – 2-1 – 3.15 Doncaster
£1ew Lucky 15"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
