So a couple hundred quid profit but very much a case of what might have been. You all know I have backed Covert Girl all year but for some dumb reason decided to desert her today. Silly boy. I have also backed Golden Horn all year but managed to talk my way out of backing him today. Stupid boy. And I had a win lucky 62 rather than my normal each way so didn’t get the benefit of all my placed horses. Dick head. Anyway a great day of racing and a great champion of the Arc. Delighted for Johnny G. I really think we are going to watch this man enjoy a period of huge success and many big race wins over the next 10 years and I think he will eventually be remembered as one of the all time greats. He is certainly one of the best communicators. A wise and articulate man who somehow manages to combine old fashioned values with modern day nous. Golden Horn was magnificent today and I did have to chuckle when I thought of how some people on this forum were proclaiming this crop of 3 year olds to be shite just after the Dante. He is one of the best Derby winners we have seen in recent years and I just hope we get to see him one more time in Keeneland.

Hope we’re right.Value Is EverythingOctober 10, 2015 at 07:15 #1216753Didn’t see Ascription but Hawksmoor ran well. The winner looks special though doesn’t she?!!!
Three bets today. I have heard good reports about Terror and I think she is ready to do the business today over a trip that will bring the best out of her. Special Season deserves another chance as he got no sort of run lto and finally I am taking a little chance that Ooty Hill is a lot better than he showed last time.
£25ew Special Season – 8-1 – 2.35 Newm loser
£35ew Terror – 11-2 – 5.00 Newm placed
£25ew Ooty Hill – 14-1 – Newm loser

October 10, 2015 at 15:32 #1216834Silly boy – been following Hugo Palmer all year and saw Gifted Master win first time out. Couldn’t believe he saw it out so well over a trip I thought might stretch him. I’ll have a little bit on his maiden later in the nursery at Chelmsford.
£80 win Gaspirali – 9-4 – Chelmsford – 6.05 loser

October 15, 2015 at 09:02 #1217659My fav jockey is riding out of his skin at the moment and I see he is still 25-1 to win the Jockeys title. I can’t resist it.
£50 win Silvestre De Sousa – Jockeys Championship 25-1
What makes a good thread a great one? What makes a good judge a great one? Simple the above comment does. Most will read this and think Joni was just throwing a Ginger Dart.Alas No,Silvestre has long been a jockey Joni has raved about in 2011 Joni was sitting on 40/1 Ante-Post vouchers for him to be Champion and hindsight shows he should really have won it but fair play to Paul Hanagan for out battling him.4 yrs have passed and SDS has had his ups and downs but Joni has stuck with his man and he will finally be rewarded for his patience and the word that describes that rare Ante-Post ability few have…..Foresight.Well done again on another great thread Sir,you write with passion, humour, loyalty and above all excellent discipline and judgement.People love to read threads like that not simple number crunching.Anyone can chuck a can of paint at a wall but few can colour it like You can.Obviously I am the ‘Art Connessieur’ and I have painted many masterpieces on here for all to see but like a Ruler of any kingdom I want to see my young protoges blossom into Flowers with colourful hues,Steve Caution has turned into a right Pansy and Ginge will always be like that Weed that comes back everytime yo stamp on it.Yes sadly not all have that rare ability to think for themselves and it just cant be taught, not even by Timeform.
October 15, 2015 at 12:59 #1217684Interesting post that one Gordy, must be one that Eric Cantona wrote for you, simply weird
I do agree that Joni is to be heartily congratulated for getting a terrific result there, but honestly, things have dropped nicely for SDS with Hughes packing it in early,Moore nutting the starting stalls and both Doyle and Buick now riding Godawfuls donkeys all around the world – only left Fergus Sweeney to beat!October 15, 2015 at 21:48 #1217712my young protoges blossom into Flowers with colourful hues,Steve Caution has turned into a right Pansy and Ginge will always be like that Weed that comes back everytime yo stamp on it.Yes sadly not all have that rare ability to think for themselves and it just cant be taught, not even by Timeform.
I use Timeform as a form book – like you might do Racing Post or some other form book Gord – I come to my own opinions, thinking for myself.
Sadly, you’ve bottled out of putting bets up on DLAP, may be you know what’ll happen.
Thankfully, Joni is no “protege” of yours, Joni is class and knows how to make long term profit.

Just seen the posts on here. They all made me laugh! Gord – what a lovely tribute. It was reading your posts that got me on here in the first place so it means a lot to get praise from you. Softie – you are absolutely right, my SDS bet rather fell into my hands with Hughesie retiring and The Happy One getting injured though I think he would still have gone close. Ginge – don’t take the bait my friend. You know Gord respects you but you also know he loves nothing more than a good wind up!!! Thanks for your comments as well though. One more day to go and unfortunately I am flying to Qatar so will miss it all but will probably post a couple of final bets a bit later.

October 16, 2015 at 18:13 #1217768Totally agree Joni, would undoubtedly gone close regardless, and it was a great call at the price – certainly wished i`d done it!
October 16, 2015 at 19:29 #1217781My blinkers were welded on but I had three years of winning off Hughes so not too bad.
Great stuff Joni.
I’m looking at Covert Love tomorrow Joni, anything to put me off…..?Blackbeard to conquer the World
October 17, 2015 at 08:24 #1217919Thanks Nath and Softie. Nath I certainly wouldn’t put you off CG and I am backing her myself. My only worry is the long season she has had but she is tough as old boots this one. BTW before I post my bets, does anyone else have problems with the Ladbrokes site? I find it painful and when I tried to place my bets this morning it kept telling me I had an invalid stake and wouldn’t accept my bets. I tried several times but gave up. I win’t use them again til they sort themselves out.
A great final day of the season and I have gone for a couple of old favourites as well as one or two who are proper horses for courses. I’m off in a minute so no time for full write up I’m afraid. Good luck all!!!

October 17, 2015 at 10:50 #1217949Sounds like youve been gubbed to me,ladbrokes and all other bookies way of banning punters that profit, is to limit stakes often to less than two quid.
October 18, 2015 at 07:39 #1218125Hi Joni thought I would stick some photos of Covert Love on here seeing as you are Hugo’s biggest fan.

October 18, 2015 at 17:27 #1218175Lovely Nath – as you said it seems like it was one race too many but she’ll make a lovely 4 year old!! It looks like you and your dad had a fantastic time!
