March 28, 2015 at 16:31 #869672So with a bit of cash in my pocket I’ll back the local horse in the big one. He’s drifted to a very backable price!
£25ew African Story 10-1 World Cup – Meydan

March 28, 2015 at 16:41 #869674Terrific start Joni. I couldn’t believe how short The Grey Gatsby was today. Despite his great season last year, I feel he’ll always be rated a bit too highly because he beat Australia.
Good luck with African Story. I feel California Chrome will be hard to beat here but he’s not much of a price. It’s a disappointing race really considering the money at stake and all the hype.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 28, 2015 at 16:55 #869687Thanks Stevie – I think you are right and CC will be hard to beat. They changed the surface to bring back the Yanks so he really SHOULD win it!

I can’t say I was inspired by the ride given to California Chrome. The horse didn’t find nearly as much as the jockey seemed to be expecting him to.
Sheikh Mohammed seemed well happy but I can’t say that I find the scenario of an eight year old horse rated 112 winning a “World Cup” very exciting for the game.
World Cup? Johnstone’s Paints Trophy more like
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

March 29, 2015 at 11:34 #870375The first thing I thought of before even setting the clocks forward was ‘Its about time Joni started Season 4 of his near legendary thread’.My wish has come true, and with a bang! Great start dear boy but you have learned well and I hope you can keep the profit going.Where others fail you succeed and thats because you have a brilliant discipline but there’s more to success at this game than just a consistent approach, its having a good memory,an eye for a horse and at times a fearless, never say die resolve that when others are saying ‘No way’ You’re saying ‘Oh Yay’!You have 4 out of those 5 qualities. B-)As yo surfaced from your slumber,a hibernation you take yearly to charge yourself up for a busy season your first thoughts would be….TAPK,I want to prove to the legend I too can be like him.Well let me tell you this my old sausage, you carry on like this for the next 25yrs and you will be bloody close. That is high praise indeed I know but I can smell talent like a Fish smells danger.Anyway yo know I’ll be doing my usual psychological profiling and if I sense like I did last year a hint of for want of a better word..’weakness’ in your quest for success I’ll subtly say so on this that can only be described as another ‘Noble Mission’…Good luck my friend and remember Confidence is King!

Brilliant Gord – pure Genius that post!!! Sitting here weeping like a baby! If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be on TRF in the first place – I read your posts for months before joining and taking my first tentative steps on to DLAP. Hope to see you and some of the other guys during the season. I will be at Newbury for their first Saturday meeting in two weeks and hopefully the Lockinge as well. Would be great if you could make one of those!
THM – great to hear from you mate and thanks a mill. Good luck for the season to you too!

March 29, 2015 at 13:26 #870494Just a couple of thoughts on yesterday:
1. You really need to have had a run before if you want to win on WC night. Only Brown Panther was making his seasonal debut.
2. Don’t give up on The Grey Gatsby. It’s not often that Ryan Moore gets it wrong but I think running over 9f was a mistake. Time will probably tell that he never stood a prayer against Solow. Saying all that he almost certainly wasn’t at his best last night. Sweated like a fat bird at a wedding and wouldn’t enter the stalls. He will still be a major player in the 10f races this season.
3. Euro Charline will be winning Group 1’s against her own sex this season. Nothing went right for her in that she was drawn on the inside, broke too well and was ridiculously keen throughout. Even though she pulled like a train she was still second 100 yards out and she will surely appreciate a drop back to a mile. Listening to her owner before the race there is no doubting the regard she is held in.
4. Solow may well be a beast. Freddy Head has ridden Miesque and trained Goldikova. He knows a very good horse when he sees one and listening to him talk about Solow you could hear the excitement. I hope we get to see a lot of him in England as the Lockinge, Queen Anne and Sussex could all be at his mercy.
Plenty of good horses on show anyway and, unlike other years, I think we’ll be seeing some of the winners over there winning over here. I would include Brown Panther, Sole Power and Dolniya in that list.

April 1, 2015 at 09:17 #871465I doubt I’ll be posting too many bets for Warren Place horses this year. In this year’s Horses in Training, Lady Cecil was the only trainer who refused to give out details of her string. It has also been removed from the website. I worked with some jockeys this week who told me she doesn’t want people to know how many horses she has lost. Very sad. Still I think she might have a winner today in Tacticus who was was once a Derby entry and who has shown spectacular improvement this winter on the sand at Southwell. He obviously has to do it on the different surface at Chelmsford but he has drifted to a very backable price this morning in the face of sustained support for the Noseda horse who made heavy weather of it last time. Martin Harley has continually said that Tacticus will be even better over a longer trip and he gets the chance to prove that today. I’ll have a little bit on him anyway.
£50 win Tacticus – 4-1 – 4.oo Chelmsford

April 3, 2015 at 08:45 #872245As might be expected given the prize money on offer, there is a really good AW card at Lingfield today. Godolphin look like having several winners and the one I am really looking forward to seeing is Pretend in the sprint. He has looked awesome this winter against admittedly mediocre opposition but I am hoping he shows how good he is today. However hardly any of the horses in blue are any value so I have had a couple of bets elsewhere on the card.
It is always worth noting when the French send something over and I like their one in the first, Fresles. He had a pipe opener a few weeks ago and has the form to win this. (sorry being rushed out of the door by my wife so have to keep the rest brief!)
Johnny G’s Tempus Temporus is the one for me in the mile race. I have had a little bet on Solar Deity and Blue Aegean could benefit from stripping fitter than his stablemate.
£30 win Fresles – 7-2
£40 win Tempus Temporus – 5-2
£15ew Solar Deity – 14-1
£25ew Blue Aegean – 7-1"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
