    St Nicholas Abbey

ran really well in the Sheema last year and I think a mile and a half on quick ground are just about his perfect conditions. He is 7-2 with Hills and I will back him to win.

£100 win St Nicholas Abbey 7-2 – Sheema

    And better!!

    Only Hunters Light to go.

Looks like team O’Brien have finally realised St Nich is best ridden nearer the pace.

    Sajjhaa

is a mare I have always liked and she is in grand form this year having won three from three. I was suprised to see her at 8’s for the Dubai Duty Free and will have some ew fun.

    £25 ew Sajjhaa 8-1 – Dubai Classic –

Can’t believe that price – was never in doubt!

    Total +£500

Yes Ginge – given the perfect ride. He was the class horse in the race. And to think how he was destroyed by You Know Who!

Can’t quite believe that start to the thread! Watched the last three races on video as was out with the kids and with a cheeky little lucky 15 was really sweating on Hunters Light. It wasn’t to be but still a wonderful day and the most I have made in one day.

    Perhaps I should quit now!

BTW thanks Pants for your best wishes.

I spent the day at Doncaster races on Saturday so didn’t pay much attention to the Dubai races but was aware of your selections so well done on kicking off to a start like that,I’m annoyed at myself for not supporting

    St Nicholas abbey

though,he really did have the form in the book to run like that! Keep up the good work mate. No pressure!

Cheers Gord. Yes it was a good night and we learnt a few things I think. It might be I am reading too much into the results but i think we might see that the Irish horses have a fitness advantage over the English. Certainly Aiden was able to get Lines of Battle and SNA in terrific shape and Mr Bolger is off to a flyer over in Ireland. By contrast it is a slow start for Hannon and Gosden’s look a little bit behind from what I have seen so far.

I would be very surprised if both early classics didn’t go across the Irish sea. With only one of Toronado and Olympic Glory lining up in the 2,000 (odds on it will be Toronado), it leaves it clear for one of O’Briens or DA. Similarly I would think the 1,000 will be between Big Break and Viztoria.

I am very happy with my AP on GV and for the life of me I can’t see why he is a bigger price thank his stablemate CC. He is the higher rated, has Group 1 form and is much more likely to get the mile well than a horse yet to race beyond 6f. Will be interesting to see which Joseph opts for.

Unlikely to be any bets on here for a couple of weeks as things always go quiet between Donny and the Craven meeting but will just say I have had a nice bet on Imperial Commander for the big one next week. I actually fancied him for the Gold Cup so he looks very well treated on even this season’s form and, as long as he jumps and stays, he must go close. I won’t count it on the thread as this is for the flat only.

Well done on the good start Jonibake, hope you keep it up :)

On the subject of Cristoforo Colombo, I think we’ll see a completely different horse once he gets proper fast ground. I’m on him ante post for the 2000 Guineas but I fear the ground may not be quick enough. He reminds me a lot of his father and it would be great to see himself and Dawn Approach go toe to toe in similar fashion to their sires :D

Best of luck with George Vancouver though, as you say he has G1 form and based on Dubai World Cup night Aidan’s better horses are fit.

Thanks THM. Yes I am sure CC will be all the better for quick ground and it is certainly a must for GV as well. If they do get their conditions it will be interesting. The weather forecast is positive. Prolonged dry spell and warmer next week – Newmarket dries very quickly so fingers crossed!

As I just said on Gord’s thread I was very taken by

    Moth

today. It was only a lowly maiden but she showed a lovely turn of foot and AOB said she would be supplemented for the 1,000 Guineas. In an open year she could be one to be on.

I have just taken the 14’s with PP.

    £75ew Moth – 14-1 1,000 Guineas

Off to a flyer again Joni. All the best.

    Thanks LW!

Sooo looking forward to the Masters tomorrow. You may remember Bubba did the business for me last year at 45-1!

On the basis of horses for courses I have had a little bit on him again at 40’s this time as well as another ew on Keegan Bradley at 25’s. My main bet though is on Tiger. He couldn’t be in better form as he has won his last two tournaments and it looks to me as if he is back in the right mental state. 9-2 is good enough for me but obviously hoping he gets off to a flyer as you might get better odds in running.

Waiting for next week’s meetings at Newbury and Newmarket before getting stuck in with official bets on this thread but would be surprised if Sir Graham Wade got beat today. He looked very progressive to me last year and is rock solid today over a trip that his main rival Testosterone may find slightly too far. Will also be looking at Fils Ange in the 2.40 as she was desperatly unlucky last time out and runs off the same mark today.

So some interesting moves taking place in the Derby market today. Kingsbarns is drifting like a barge and the likes of Mars, Telescope and Battle of Marengo are attracting support.

Of these and at the prices I really like

    Battle of Marengo

. He improved with every race last year despite running on ground that he mostly didn’t like. He will be running in the Ballysax on Sunday and will shorten a lot if he wins.

He is beautifully bred and the Derby has always been the plan as he is almost certain to stay.

One or two bookies are still offering 16’s including Betfred so I will have some ew action.

    £50ew – Battle Of Marengo 16-1 – Derby

Having said there would be no bets til next week I have now spotted a horse I liked last year running in the next at Kempton.

    Homeric

is a great big colt who caught my eye when finishing runner up on his first run after a long lay off at the back end of last season. He followed up next time despite bad luck in running and I think he should run well off a mark of 86.

    £35ew Homeric 11-2 – 7.30 Kempton

Got to be pleased with that today. Very workmanlike but desperate ground and showed a good attitude giving 5lbs away as well. Has to be a major player as will get the distance and should improve for better ground.

Feeling a bit gutted as did an O’Brien treble today with this one, Dec of War and the 2 year old in the first who was delivered too late!!!
