He has Sea The Stars retired he lost Alandi and Alvian not a lot of good 2yo this year maybe Nebula Storm. Will John Oxx have a bad season next year.
November 19, 2009 at 19:28 #259483It seems to be resting upon Arazan’s shoulders, doesn’t it? I just hope he gets over his problems, and runs.

Arazan has probally been ready for a while but would have run in some of the races Sea The Stars beat which would be pointless excerise.
He trained well with Sea The Stars as 2yo and I think he’ll take some beating next year.
Been a long wait but I am sure he’s going to be worth it.
November 19, 2009 at 21:54 #259518That doesn’t make too much sense to me, Mr Wilson. Surely if Arazan had been ready to run he could have had a prep race and then be pitched into the Champion Stakes? I think the mention of Sea The Stars is a bit of a red herring; more likely that it was decided to scrap the season, and have a proper preparation for next season.
November 19, 2009 at 22:06 #259523Doesnt he habitually run his less (if at all) at two than most others?

Good points both of you, but Gerald why would you prep a horse for something you know he can’t win, it was imperative that Sea The Stars run in the Irish Champion Stakes for both Irish fans and the horses reputation/stud value.
I think if it weren’t for Sea The Stars superiority we would have seen Arazan, judging by this years 2 year olds I think it was a wise move to save Arazan.
Maybe I am wrong theres every possibility but just my opinion, cheers
November 19, 2009 at 22:22 #259532Nebula Storm in fairness looked very good last time out.
Aga Khan has some really poor horses in training in Ireland compared to France….where Dupre seems to be churning out stars every year
November 19, 2009 at 22:47 #259541I wasn’t referring to the Irish Champion Stakes – I was referring to the proper one.
November 19, 2009 at 23:06 #259548oxx has a 2 yo who finished only 2 l of jan vermeer despite having a poor draw, when this horse will step up in trip he ll very good imo

Arazan was said to be every bit of good as Sea The Stars (if not better) over a mile, but missed the 2000 Guineas because of his aversion to fast ground. Quite why we didn’t see him after that I don’t know, but if he stays in training I suspect he’ll be more than competitive in Group company.
Tarankali and Keredari should also prove up to scratch.
November 20, 2009 at 08:20 #259572The story goes that Arazan was given incorrect medication by a vet at Currabeg around June time and was very sick for a long-time afterwards. He wouldn’t have been able to race this backend even if they had wanted to.
He worked with Sea the Starts at Leopardstown on easy ground over about 7 furlongs a fortnight before Newmarket with Kinane up and ‘finished’ a head in front.November 20, 2009 at 12:19 #259600There was never going to be much point pitching Arazan into a Group 1 like the Champion Stakes.
The race isn’t worth the paper its written on. Becoming as bad as the The Leger now due to its timing in the season.
In fact why does England need another 1m2f race….its has the Juddomonte Internationl, The Eclipse, The Prince of Wales.
3 big races over 1m2f is enough tbh….and the fact its in October stinks.
New Approach is the only decent winner since Nayef and is fast becoming a afterthought from the Arc. In fact there is no becoming, it is
November 20, 2009 at 21:52 #259690I must admit I tend to agree with you Wallace. The main thing its got going for it is its longevity.
The French also have a superfluous 1m2f G1 as well – the one that Goldikova won at Deauville and the Prix du Moulin are only a few weeks apart, but it would be politically impossible to get rid of one of them.
edit: Yeah, I know, I mean a superfluous Mile race!

Anyway, I got around to checking out what was wrong with Arazan this time – apparently a lung infection, so perhaps fairly wise to scrap the remainder of the season.
December 14, 2009 at 23:27 #263904Fran Berry confirmed as the stable jockey at Currabeg for the 2010 season. Even money fav to be Champion Jockey in a place!

11/4 with Stan James and 3/1 with Ladbrokes.
December 15, 2009 at 20:43 #264007Dont forget Oxx has Rayeni to play with next year too!
As for the Champion odds. Fran is second to none in the latter part of the season and loves the Dundalk track – that’ll boost his chances of Championship glory when it comes down to the nitty gritty final few weeks.

John Oxx confirmed that Arazan is flying the flag for him this year but has picked up a foot injury ruling him out the Gladness in April.
He also stated his bunch of 3 year olds this year are very average, now we know why he saved Arazan last year who would have been a multiple G1 winner were it not for Sea The Stars and injury.

Thanks for the info, Mr. Wilson. Where do you get your information, by the way? I always keep an eye peeled for Oxx broadcasts, but I missed that one.
