His horses are not running that well at thye moment. Does he have a virus?
Last winner 10 days ago and the previous 5 days before that.
More of That ran like a drain today.November 29, 2014 at 17:00 #496883MoT looked to be struggling with his breathing from pretty early today (I tweeted after the 3rd that he seemed to be running with the choke out). Jonjo later said that they have always been concerned about his wind (a bit late for odds-on backers)
November 29, 2014 at 18:07 #496891As usual lovely to see the great man keeping punters abreast of what is happening.
November 29, 2014 at 18:14 #496894The Stewards considered the running of MORE OF THAT (IRE), ridden by A.P. McCoy, and trained by Jonjo O’Neill, which finished third, beaten 25 lengths, having stopped quickly approaching the last flight. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. They ordered MORE OF THAT (IRE) to be routine tested.
Steeplechasing I wonder why he did not tell the Stewards about the horses breathing then or am I missing something.
November 29, 2014 at 18:23 #496896Looking at More Of That before the race I was far from confident that he looked ready to go out there and earn me some Ten To Follow points. I thought he was struggling from quite a long way out, certainly long before the commentator saw fit to tell us he wasn’t travelling that well.
If he
wasn’t
a good bit short of peak fitness today I would be very concerned for the horse going forward from this.
I toyed between More Of That and Beat That for my Ten To Follow pick and at this rate I should probably have said ***k That.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
December 19, 2014 at 20:20 #498940His horses are running poor at the moment.
Not had a winner since at least the 5th of this mnoth
His horse in the first today at Ascot stopped like it had been shot.
I could not back one of his at the minute with given money.
Does he have a virus?December 19, 2014 at 20:38 #498941He’s very much on the cold list but come Cheltenham time he is going to have some very well handicapped horses at this rate
December 19, 2014 at 20:44 #498943The horse in the first raced too freely (again). It looked a very strange decision to up it in trip on testing ground that almost certainly wouldn’t have suited. Sometimes it looks as if the trainer is clueless but some people are willing to forgive almost anything for a Festival winner.
December 19, 2014 at 20:52 #498946I agree tony 321
But he always does.
If you can explain how he managed to get Holywell beat by Hello George at Catterick I will never know.
People will say track, going and so on but it to me it is still and always will be a mystery
Still JJ is the master of getting a horse right for the big raceDecember 19, 2014 at 21:42 #498952Champagne Present looked like a good prospect today. Early doors was 1.8 on Betfair, I had a bet at odds against. He drifted alot pre-race and dint make it into the first three. Looked very tired at the finish. A clear example of people taking on the stable in its current form and getting it right.

December 20, 2014 at 15:59 #499073From my experience when a horse stops like he was shot it means he has a health problem. Not a fitness one.
December 20, 2014 at 16:09 #499075Goodwood Mirage also ran as if suffering from some sort of bug today. Noted travelling like a tank mid-race, came under pressure and found nil.
Brace yourselves for the great revival in March.
December 20, 2014 at 16:21 #499077Mark Johnston stable motto:-
"Always Trying"
Jonjo O’Neill stable motto:-
"Sure now, we’ll be trying when it suits us"
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 6, 2015 at 16:16 #500569JONJO O’NEILL has dismissed concerns about the health of his string despite the trainer going seven weeks without a winner.
Despite the barren run, O’Neill remains positive. "They’re running all right, they’re just not winning", O’Neill told the Racing Post at Bangor Tuesday.
O’Neill had been fancied to bag a first champion trainers’ title after a sprightly start to the season and he added: "We had a great time and then it just stopped and that’s it. Maybe it’s a lot of summer horses running in the winter."The last comment amused me. Surely being the trainer is it not his job to know if the horse is a summer or winter one and then why run a horse in winter if its a summer one. Strange
January 6, 2015 at 16:58 #500572O’Neil joins Henderson as a trainer with horses who don’t like "winter ground".
Perhaps they should try the flat full time?
January 6, 2015 at 17:53 #500575His horses aren’t "running all right" at all. It seemed to all start around betfair chase day, since then nearly every horse he sent out has run like a complete dog. Last season (oct, nov, dec) he had 41 winners, same 3 months this season have returned just 13 winners . There’s also been a massive reduction in the amount of runners he’s sending out suggesting all’s not well. IF, there is a virus then the great man is running out of time to get the big guns ready for Cheltenham. I’ll still back Holywell and Tarqain though
January 6, 2015 at 18:36 #500577As I pointed out on another thread, it’s not just the lack of winners but the lack of runners that worries me.
Jonjo went zero from 36 runners in December. The previous December he had 105 runners.
Why would you run almost a third of the number of horses, averaging little more than one a day, than you did the same month the previous year if all was well with your string?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
