The great John Henry died at the Kentucky Horse Park yesterday, aged 32.

One of the all time iconic racehorses, the steel drivin’ horse had been fading badly in recent days, and the sadly awaited decision to put him to sleep was finally made.

    R.I.P, you irascible old so-snd-so.

You’ve got to go sometime and 32’s not bad. Still sad though.
I’ve got a picture on my wall of him and me. I’m jumping a foot in the air after I’ve given him a carrot and he’s tried to take my hand.

Probably read one of your articles, Zorro!

As you say, a good age, well done, JH.

There’s been a run of superannuated racehorses shuffling off recently:

    Shady Deal 34
Bregawn (last of the ‘five’) 34

    now JH 32

    …cherished memories all

I’m glad that we went to see him one last time the week before the Breeders’ Cup last year.
