Blimey MV, if Gosden was sending him to Folkestone it’s no wonder they fell out. It closed in 2012!

I have no doubt you’re right and certainly don’t blame Dettori for his decision. However, as long as he was retained jockey, I am also sure that it created problems for the stable and particularly the all-important relationship with owners, as well as disquiet among the jockeys who do travel to these lesser meetings, win on the horse only to see Dettori take over on the big occasions. Part of the job of course and they understand this it but only works as long as he’s at the top of his game. Too early to write him off (though he can’t keep going forever) but no surprise that it’s come to this. Just that it has been done so publicly – and nastily.

Jockeys can only ride at one meeting a day now anyway, so the point about going on to Redcar is obsolete.

When did this happen, have I missed something?

Not sure but I think it might have been introduced as part of the Covid protocol and then retained.

I’m sure CAS is right – when racing first resumed after lockdown in June 2020 behind closed doors it was brought in and has remained.

The whole thing just looks like petulance, mostly from gosden. Fwiw frankie haa just has a run of bad luck which happens to every jockey. He was very unlucky in the oaks and was ahead before and after the line. Palace pier was never going to beat baaaed, strad wasnt going to win last years gold cup and kyprios would have pulled out more if strad got close. Also lord north has happened to many top jockeys. Gosdens frustration is he hasnt got the firepowêer of old and indeed he said he was giving thady( silly name btw) a hospital pass.
Im no great fan of frankie but he has been treated poorly in this instance but as weve seen with riders riding well they are still being jocked off. Do we not think westover would have won just as easy with rob on board.
Gosdens biggest faux pas was criticising frankie in front of others. Bad form. Maybe frankie regrets criticising hollie doyle in france now she might replace him.🤣

Frankie’s temperament is not like many – if any – jockey I’ve known. Vast majority seem very laid back and as if nothing overly excites them. Maybe because having a level head helps when making split second decisions in a race… And the more relaxed a jockey is the more relaxed the horse tends to be and the better form it can show. Frankie seems able to be the extrovert out of the saddle while still being relaxed on it. But I do wonder whether his temperament allows him to treat a poor ride/s quite as well as other jockeys do.

Frankie is someone who doesn’t seem to take criticism well. That’s not meant as me having a go, just imo the way he is. Some people respond better to being patted on the back and told what a great rider you are… But if told “that was a bad ride” or “don’t do it again”, it affects their judgement. eg Gosden’s (and others) criticism of last year’s Gold Cup ride probably led to Frankie having that in his mind and not doing the right things in this year’s race… And criticism (or knowing himself it was a poor ride/s) adds up, affecting decision making which leads to more poor rides. Although of course it can happen to any jockey, Frankie is imo more susceptible than any other I’ve ever seen. He’s a “confidence jockey”. When things are going well it tends to continue that way, when things are going badly…

For this reason I am surprised Gosden has publicly criticised Frankie, can’t have done his confidence any good.

Hope Frankie’s win at Newmarket can start to turn the tide. :rose:

I forgot to mention that Frankie missed the break twice on Decorated Hero back in 1997. The first time in the Railway Park Stakes at Donny and then in the Breeders Cup Mile where he only finished third to Spinning World.

Maybe that’s what bothered JG in the first place.

“Gosdens biggest faux pas was criticising frankie in front of others. Bad form.”

    Nail on head.

Tbh, it was Gosden’s ONLY faux pas – he was entitled to be critical and speak his mind (so long as it was behind closed doors) and he was entitled to hand out a “sabbatical” (the new name for a P45).

I didn’t laugh at all when Sunray Major got beat shortly after Lezoo won – promise! (fingers crossed)

I notice that William Buick is up at Hamilton Park today to ride six horses, none of them for Godolphin.

OK, he is trying to become Champion Jockey. But what a contrast to Dettori, who cannot even be bothered going to Newbury in the evening.

Buick is a much younger man with different priorities.

He is – but I think it is still a fair point.

Why is Dettori not riding more often? In an era when you can only ride at one meeting a day, the grind of travel is no longer so much of an excuse.

Dettori has had a very small number of rides this season and very few outside of the Gosden stable. Why should he all of a sudden expect to get on to other horses with chances when he clearly considers it is beneath him to even go down the road to Yarmouth? There is a touch of arrogance about that attitude.

I agree his treatment by the Gosdens has been shabby but I do not think he has helped himself.

Can see Frankie picking up the ride on Westover now

Be funny if Gosden runs emily upjohn in the King George or Arc and she finishes 2nd to frankie on westover

Also will Cheveley park really agree to have frankie jocked off Inspiral? I’d be a little surprised if they did

Maybe it’s a sabbatical not sacked because a couple of gosdens owners still want frankie on

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dettori on Inspiral next time out – this saga isn’t over yet.

Maybe Cheveley Park will move their horses from Gosden, like they did with Elliott.

    ——————————-

    Nonsense CAS.

It’s not “beneath him”, he just chooses not to do it.

Millions of workers across the country choose to do less work once they get near retirement.
Is doing more work “beneath them”?
Is there a “touch of arrogance about that attitude”?

There is no need to take that tone Ginger.

I really cannot be bothered with this forum if that is how people are going to behave.

Saying “with due respect” when none is intended does not make it any better.
