December 13, 2010 at 20:17 #332487This looks like a good opportunity for my favourite horse, The Nightingale, on his preferred soft ground at Fairyhouse. Rated 162 by no less an authority than the BHA and likely to be fully fit like most Nicholls runners. See other threads for the more sceptical views of Fist and TAPK.
December 14, 2010 at 07:58 #332537Sorry – Nightingale is 167.
I saw on one website that money is coming in for this animal, but I haven’t seen a market for this race. Is it with some obscure Irish bookmaker?

I only got as far as Captain Cee Bee because I wouldn’t back against him.
Goes ahead, he runs, I back him.
December 14, 2010 at 11:43 #332552Captain Cee Bee has talent but his jumping still isn’t bombproof and he’s not guaranteed to get 2m4f, especially in testing conditions that are likely to be prevalent tomorrow.
I think The Nightingale could be good enough to land this if he has improved form his display last time as Roberto Goldback/Osana were essentially the season’s top novice over this trip last season and he beat then by 11 lengths.

December 15, 2010 at 14:57 #332709I notice Mr Mullens said his horses, Cooldine and J’y Vole, might not be fully fit before this race. So it proved despite a shortening of their odds prior to the off. Seems like Mullens plays a straight bat, like Mr Nicholls.

Talked myself out of backing Tranquil Sea, so I deserved to lose after all that horse has won for me in the past. I still think he’s worth another bet around Cheltenham in March.
December 15, 2010 at 17:15 #332743J’Vole is a better horse that Tranquil Sea and again was given too much to do on her return. She really is a cracking mare and should have won the Ryanair last year.
I think Walsh will be on this Mare come March and will make all the difference. Davy Condon didn’t do much wrong but you cant afford to be a little bit out on Grade 1’s and he was. This horse is made for Ruby.
December 15, 2010 at 17:30 #332753It looked to my untrained eye that the pace of this race was a bit slow and this might explain the bunch finish. In fact it was slower by a few seconds than the novice chase over the same distance today. So I don’t think we can reach any definite form conclusions.
December 15, 2010 at 20:53 #332805Agree with Rubyisgod about J’y Vole; just looked to be given a bit too much to do.
Looking forward to seeing where Griffin goes with Glencove Marina now – surely wants a step up in trip and hope he stays sound.
