February 9, 2009 at 00:27 #209033Some would say Denman still hasn’t recovered from Cheltenham a year later, Joe Lively runs after a hard run at Cheltenham 2 weeks later. He was carrying a top weight aswell.
February 9, 2009 at 00:34 #209035I thought that was quite a big "ask" for Joe on Saturday too – sad to see him fizzle out so early on and now to hear he is injured.
February 9, 2009 at 01:24 #209050Suicidal in running Joe Livley at Kempton after such a hard race at Cheltenham.
Even Lighting Strike who won on the same day at Doncaster on the same day two weeks ago struggled at Kempton.
February 9, 2009 at 05:37 #209108Famous last words when trainers say that a horse has had a hard race but seem to have come out of it really well so are going to run them soon after; however, pleased to read that it is a nasty cut that hasn’t actually damaged the tendon itself but will take a while to heal…he’s such a smashing little horse, so will look forward to seeing him next season.
February 20, 2009 at 14:56 #211307This was a desperate bit of bad luck.
Joe Lively had been in the form of his life and im sure he would of ran a huge race in the Gold Cup..He`s only a tiny horse but a real pocket battleship!
For me his victory at Cheltenham recently when giving Halcon Genelardais 6lbs (Now he`s one of the toughest stayers out there) was the highlight of the season so far.
