Sad news. Three Hennessys in a row was some achievement….
December 2, 2008 at 19:19 #193810Obviously horses die like everything else, but this is quite sad news. Love my Northern horses and trainers and he was definitley one of the greats.
December 2, 2008 at 19:23 #193815A lovely, beautiful horse ..bet he had a super retirement..great memories of him….
December 2, 2008 at 20:09 #193837RIP.
December 2, 2008 at 20:45 #193842I’m trying to remember what happened in his last race; I know he broke down but was still placed…..
December 2, 2008 at 20:58 #193844Fractured his fetlock or cannon-bone in the Irish Hennessy if memory serves
Terrific horse
edit: just checked, he ruptured his off-fore tendon
December 2, 2008 at 21:14 #193847we were standing out our usual spot by the pre parade ring at Cheltenham when Hussard Collonges was running in the Gold Cup..the people next to us were connections of the horse and I remember hearing one of them say, incredulously ‘crikey, Peter’s wearing a new coat!’….
December 2, 2008 at 21:43 #193858A wonderful, wonderful horse.
RIP, Jodami.
Here’s a photo of him in March on Gold Cup day.
*EDIT*
I’ve decided to paste the link.
Thanks, Firefox
December 2, 2008 at 22:07 #193860Some very touching posts. As I recall Anthea rode him in his initial bumper races and then Paddy took over when he went over timber and fences. They did a great job between them. I saw him run on a few occasions in the north and was unfortunate enough to see him take his only fall at Wetherby, in the Charlie Hall, again from memory I think that was his first run after winning the gold cup, and the main reason I went to Wetherby that day to see him. He was what chasing is all about, he had all the necessary attributes and hall marks of an ideal chaser, stature, skill, tenacity, natural ability and class.
He had a tremendous record over jumps and his first and second in consecutive Gold Cups was a great achievement, as was his excellent record in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup. The first of those Hennessy’s being the most exciting winning by a head or even short head from Chatam. I can remember shouting him home.
Thanks for the memories. RIP Jodami.
December 2, 2008 at 22:43 #193871Lovely picture, great tributes. Certainly the horse of a lifetime for the yard. Rest easy, old boy.

December 2, 2008 at 23:11 #193882Wonderful horse, I remember him sluicing up at Kelso in his novice chases. A grand stamp of a horse, and so safe to watch.
Sleep well, Jodami.
December 2, 2008 at 23:21 #193890Absolutely gutted to hear the old boy has passed away, he was due a few more years of retirement yet judging by his condition and the care he was getting at home. He was a ‘proper’ stamp of a NH horse and one i followed along his career and i just loved him to bits.
I will always remember the day when he did a leg chasing Danoli home, they were two very gutsy horses on that run in. But i think the worst thing about him getting injured was being told PB was really looking forwards to that years Gold Cup as he thought he was as good as ever (won’t be beat were the words coming out of Brandsby
) and he was also to be his Grand National horse that year which might surprise a few people. Thanks for the Memories Old Lad.
December 2, 2008 at 23:39 #193897oh,another hero of mine is gone…
i have very fond memories of him too, although i could not pick out a specific race.each of them was special in its own way…goodbye old boy…December 3, 2008 at 01:20 #193915Grand grand horse. Tough as old boots. One of many tough old boots sired by the great Crash Course. Good memories.
December 3, 2008 at 04:46 #193965Just adding my tribute to a real hero. His Gold cup was a real cracker and as has already been said, he was as tough as old boots. A real old fashioned type of hard as nails chaser with lovely people behind him who got the good horse their talens deserved and who cherished him.
A sad day
December 3, 2008 at 05:12 #193970I have a lasting memory of Jodami I will never forget. The first time I saw him he was in a hurdle race and I turned to my friend and said " That horse will win the Gold Cup some day" I am sure many many people thought the same of him in his early days as he was such a striking individual who moved with the grace of a dressage horse.
One of the classiest looking horses ever to grace a racecourse he brought so much pleasure to his fan. Just to look at him was something worth going racing for…….he was to me the George Clooney of racing and when he appeared he turned heads everwhere……A handsome brute of a horse and the ability to go with it. Jodami and Mark Dwyer were for me the perfect combination. I am certain Mark will be sadenned by this news and you can bet he still has his pictures of the Queen Mum and Jodami up there on his mantlepiece he was so proud to show me when I visited his home many years ago.
Without doubt one of the best horses ever to win a Gold Cup he will never be forgotten by many of us. RIP

Ref, that’s got to be a red card for blatant after-timing,Ref.
