I notice in the Racing Post that VERY often when jockeys are asked what the best piece of advice they have had is, they say: Always keep your mouth shut.

    Funny, that.

Cheers! (All still losing? Thought so. Ta-ra!)

I’ve never heard that before either.

Can you just give us the names of a few of these jockeys?

What they probably mean is if publicly criticised by an owner or trainer – it is best to remain silent instead of explaining a ride. Because "explaining" will only antagonise them still further and mean you’ll never get on one of theirs again. Much better to remain quiet until the storm blows over, you’re more likely to get the ride/s back when (they think) the next jockey bugg… it up.

Also, other owners and trainers won’t like it either, makes it look like you can’t take criticism.

A couple of quotes I heard.
Ask your horse for one effort. It should end at the winning post.
Only one question for the trainer; when do you want me to hit the front?
Finally "get your instructions before you accept the ride".
