With recent talk on here of unsung jockeys, I’d just like to offer up my ten pence worth and say how impressed I am with this guy’s riding so far this season.

Very few come from a recognised jumps background to ride with such finesse and judgement against the top flat boys ( unless you’re a certain Mr L.Piggott, I guess ) but this guy just seems to get better every season.

Yes, he’s getting better quality horses now with Ralph Beckett but he’s just one of those jockeys that you know will present his horse with every chance in the race if they’re good enough ( cue disgruntled punters talking through pocket )

Was at Nottingham today to witness another excellent effort when, after reluctantly ( I think ) finding himself in front, he dictated the pace and increased the tempo up the home straight to win unchallenged on Forest Crown.

    Quality effort.

OMG … just read the rabid response to the Ryan Mahon ride this afternoon … my apologies to anyone offended by my transparent praise of Mr Crowley’s ride this afternoon

For the record, yes I did back him but I was also mightily impressed with the ride of young James Rogers in the last race and I didn’t have a penny on that :)

Jim rode for us a few years back, both on the flat and over hurdles on a difficult horse. He was not only a good rider, but also took a lot of time over our naughty boy, and talking to us about him afterwards.

I’m very pleased that he is having some success, he deserves it, has worked very hard and is humble about his talents.

Agreed, Jim is a much under-rated jockey, and being totally selfish it’s really a shame he’s riding on the flat and no longer showing his art over timber

As good a judge of pace on all-weather as you will find, imo.

Amazing round Kempton and Lingfield – one of the best jockeys riding in recent years.

Wouldn’t want anyone else on my side in a finish on the flat :)

Would agree with everything posted here. He’s just been on an upward curve for last couple of years. I’m delighted he got the gig with Beckett this year, a really important year for him. His recent ride on Vulcanite was top drawer.

Have always thought of him as very underated. Good to see him getting a bit of praise. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve backed a horse on the strength of him being up.
