New Approach misses today’s Irish Derby with what sounds like a minor stone bruise – that should have cleared up in a few days no problem.

…and Aidan O’Brien has a certain Duke Of Marmalade left in the Coral Eclipse next Saturday.

Come on gents – you know it makes sense – all to play for and the title of (un)official turf world champion at 10f at stake 8)

It would make for an interesting clash.

With New Approach getting 11lbs from the Duke I think connections would be silly to skip the Eclipse, assuming the horse is fully fit.

Looking through the entries, next Saturday’s race has the potential to be a very good one.

How many times is this raised? It’s called weight-for-age. It is neither to the advantage nor the disadvantage of New Approach.

I am fully aware of what weight for age is thank you so I don’t need a patronising response.

I would argue that 11lbs is a significant advantage to New Approach

NEw Approach is a definite NR – from the sounds of the latest bulletin it may be the injury was a bit worse than it first appeared.

If they’re going to clash I would have thought it would be more likely to happen in the King George seeing as that’s Duke Of Marmalade’s next target. Although the KG isn’t a very fashionable race to go for nowadays with a three year old so I suppose it would be a surprise if New Approach turned up.

I would absolutely love to see New Approach Vs Duke Of Marmalade in the eclipse, or even just new approach vs the others from the prince of wales.

Think new approach would destroy Duke Of Marmalade at 1m2f at level weights let alone getting 11lbs off him. What race that would be.

From Tony O’Hehir in the RP:

"NEW APPROACH will not be asked to contest next Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse Stakes after being ruled out of Sunday’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby due to injury.

Coral had installed the Vodafone Derby winner as their 4-7 favourite forthe Eclipse, but trainer Jim Bolger insisted on Sunday that Princess Haya’s Epsom Classic hero will not be back on a racecourse in time for the Sandown test.

He said: "At this stage I don’t know anything about plans, but he definitely won’t be runningnext Saturday. "

I wouldn’t lump on until there is a "mistake" made with the 5-day entries tomorrow!

What has the Shiekh’s vet to say since Jim has not mentioned a vet yet? We never did get a veterinarian report on Teofilo and we haven’t got one on New Approach so far. Very interesting!
