Just noticed that GC is Racing Post Spotlight for the first four races at Brighton.
Does that mean he resigned, and EMW had to take over for the last two, or that he refuses to look at races of less than 6f 209y ?
June 29, 2010 at 13:22 #303784Also just noticed that the races at Brighton today are in reverse order of distance. Is there any particular reason for this?
June 29, 2010 at 13:59 #303791Would think it’s easier to move the stalls going in just one direction throughout the afternoon rather than backwards and forwards all the time.
Isn’t EMW a sprint specialist?June 29, 2010 at 14:30 #303792Just noticed that GC is Racing Post Spotlight for the first four races at Brighton.

Heh-heh, you’re a very silly man, Gerald, but I like you!
Don’t know as much about the
Post
‘s allocating of staff as I do / did for the
Sportsman
, but in the case of the latter I think the required number of Spotlighters for any given day, be they permanent staff or freelancers, was estimated well in advance on the basis of total field sizes for the corresponding raceday over the previous few seasons. I’m sure Prufrock can correct if I’ve not quite got that right.
Either way, I will have been booked initially on the basis of Spotlighting as many as 50 runners (including Diomed stuff) if the figures had required it, and my four other stints so far this summer all comprised 46-50 horses’ worth of work.
Per sprints, Emily gave me two 15-runner Nottingham sprint handicaps last August, so I don’t entirely escape those if they need doing!
