Hatha Anna did something similar too.
July 12, 2009 at 20:46 #239308Both Fantastic Love and Hatha Anna’s wins were in G2 Handicap races. Fantastic Love then went on to run 2nd in a G2 WFA. Hatha Anna did come back 12 months later and ran 20th of 23 in the Melbourne Cup.
July 13, 2009 at 10:24 #239382love to see the poms try a Cox Plate on for size
July 13, 2009 at 18:50 #239431In The Know, your pom bashing is rather tiresome and doesn’t fit with the thoughts of lots of Aussie owners and trainers who visit here. We welcome the Aussies here with open arms and are, mostly, delighted when they run well.
When European horses travel to race in Australia they have to do 2 weeks quarantine over here and 3 weeks quarantine upon arrival in Melbourne.
When Australian horses come to race here they don’t have to do any quarantine and could run straight off the plane if they wanted to.
You surely have to factor this into the equation because it means that few of our top horses would be prepared to overcome this obstacle – outside of the Melbourne Cup which is so valuable, prestigious and is run over a trip which is outside the norm for high class international racing. It also rules out running in races at the Arc meeting etc which impacts on the quality of horses we can send.
July 14, 2009 at 10:27 #239524how is that pom bashing Adrian, I’d love to see a UK horse have a crack at the BEST race in Australia.
as for quarantine, i am aware it creates difficulties for everone in varying degress……….we do supply a lovley spacious training track for the purpose. We are proud of the fact we keep most of the nasties out , hence we CAN go straight on to the track there
July 15, 2009 at 02:16 #239642I agree about the Coxs plate, its a bloody hard race. Grandera went down their ( he ate an ozzie vet who got clever with him and probably had indigestion) he ran into some very classey horses who could kick the arses of theirs peers any where on the planet.
All I can say about ozzie men, rough trade who go around claiming too be real men when in the company of homosexauls. This despite the fact they have a big shortage of women some areas He who shouts loudest is often the one with the biggest secrets

After watching the majority of the crowd at the cricket the other night would have to say that Yorkshire’s comment is a case of the pot calling the kettle black
July 15, 2009 at 14:12 #239681A couple of points regarding the facts.
Taufan’s Melody failing to be taken down for the Caulfield Cup was an even more egregious case than Dylan Thomas in the Arc,where the stewards lost their nerve.
To house international competitors at Sandown,a fully functioning racetrack but otherwise lacking a horse population,is more akin to being " quarantined" at a private training facility.
Bart has forgotten more than knows and makes a ham fist of the arguement about limiting foreign participation, but he does point to the kernel of the problem. The limited number of opportunities available to australian horses in terms of prizemoney, distance and suitable going place them at a severe disadvantage in meeting the minimum qualifying standard.Viewed, last years winner underlines this point, reliant as he was on backform on winter tracks, stepping up in trip, showing nothing in the lead ups going left handed. It was only Bart’s pro forma regime of pointing any group winner at the race, the fact that he performed well on a firm surfacea and was right on the day that the result was as it was.
The race is more akin to a cross between a limited handicap, with a a top and bottom weight, and a wfa race with handicaps and penalties. To dismiss it as a handicap falls short of the mark.Yeats despite an outstanding performance, given the poor tactical ride he got ,emphasized the current folly to suggest that he could be competitive at 1m4f nowadays, when he took part in the cup.July 15, 2009 at 14:49 #239683May yet see a Japanese trainer lift this year’s Cox Plate, albeit coming from Singapore with Jolie’s Shinju:
August 19, 2009 at 01:40 #244655Aussie quarantine rules have now precluded HK Derby winner Collection from going for the Cox Plate.
extract from today’s SCMP (Murray Bell):
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
[Trainer John] Moore said the initial plan to focus on the A$3.05 million (HK$19.44 million) Tatts Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 24 were canned, in consultation with Collection’s owners, after an examination of the prevailing quarantine protocols.
"Unfortunately, you cannot race a horse in Australia out of quarantine, as you can do in Dubai and elsewhere," Moore explained. "It makes it quite a tricky exercise and then you have the next challenge of getting him back here in top form for December.
"On balance, we thought the better idea was to stay here and take aim at December, and see if we can earn an invite to Dubai. So in the end, we didn’t even enter for Melbourne."

August 22, 2009 at 01:30 #245218Funny how this thread went from Japans horses banned from the cup and Barts comments to Brits having chips on their shoulders and GB breds being useless.
